Really? I thought Anthology series were things like Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, that Limited Series were things like AHS, True Detective and Fargo and that Miniseries were things like Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies (before they changed their minds and brought it back).

Calling those "limited series" is just using the name of the category the Emmys put them in. They are all anthologies.

American Crime Story, American Crime, Channel Zero, Slasher, Genius, Feud are others.

There are episodic anthology series and season anthology series.

Surprised there's not more discussion on this. It's a great show!

And even better, I was able to dust off my old "clue notebooks" from when Lost was on and use them for this show.

The reveal at the end of episode 5 tonight was pretty crazy. Also, we got confirmation that Jane Levy’s character’s name isn’t just a nod to The Shining.

I’m on episode two and don’t have much of a clue what’s going on but I am still very much entertained.

Yeah, episode 5 was really great.

I went to bed and told my wife, who doesn't watch the show:

Spoiler:

They asked him if he was the devil!!!!

She was like WTF are you talking about.

Re: Castle Rock (Hulu) - Stephen King anthology series - EP: Abrams - premieres 7/25/

how many commercials does the cheap plan have per show and is it possible to FF thru the commercials?

I'm a tad skeptical about paying for a network that has commercials, but at this point there are a decent number of shows I would like to see 11/23/63, Handmaidens tale and this off the top...

We pay the extra $4 a month for the no commercials plan. It's worth it.

Whoa. Episode 7 had me on the edge of my seat. Sissy Spacek was excellent.

What did y'all make of the chess pieces on the table at the very end?

I thought it was to show that it wasn't just a narrative flashback for Spacek's character - her mind was literally thinking or had retreated to a more happier time and place at the moment (whether that was due to some mystical reason or simply dementia is up for debate). It gave the rather shocking and heart-wrenching climax of the episode a less depressing tone.

Also, if you notice, the queen is still standing but the king has fallen over.

Sorry, it's the knight, not the king chess piece.

I thought perhaps she was finally succumbing to her dementia, unable to distinguish past from present. It was crazy to learn the reason Alan went to Ruth's home to check on her
is because a neighbor reported hearing the gunshots when she shot him, or rather shoots him in the future?

Man, tried to binge this to catch up over the weekend and fell asleep on it. Felt like a chore to get through. Sigh...

Re: Castle Rock (Hulu) - Stephen King anthology series - EP: Abrams - premieres 7/25/

Finally got time to check this show out. One episode in and I'm enjoying it, but the shitty 64kbps 2ch audio Hulu has makes a lot of the dialogue inaudible to the point I am forced to keep subtitles on to understand quite a bit of what is being said. I don't know how people deal with this or why Hulu thinks that is acceptable. The video quality is really nice, it's on par with Amazon imo fairly often), you'd think they'd offer some decent audio (no other stream service I know of offers this low of quality audio).

FUNimation tried offering 64kbps audio and they faced massive backlash and lost subscribers due to boycotts until they opted to go with 256kbps. Odd that Hulu seems to have not faced the same. Guess anime fans are more vocal about quality concerns. All the time seeing people being vocal about Crunchyrolls low end video quality (which they did decide to improve slightly last year after backlash too).

I may end up having to put this show on the backburner until it's available elsewhere with better audio as I'm not sure if I wanna invest in the show via subtitles to understand what's going on.

From my PC via an HDMI cord to a Sceptre 40" 4K HDTV. I've been meaning to purchase a sound bar but haven't gotten around to it, but the low-bitrate audio Hulu offers sounds really muffled when I turn the audio up more to hear it. If I keep the volume low and move closer it's a bit more audible.

Oh, yeah, audio from their website isn't great. It's been fine on my Roku and they offer 5.1 on my Xbone.
