Hopefully this gets the 4K Dolby Vision / Atmos treatment on P+.

Reviews starting to hit. This is a fairly positive spoiler free review of first few episodes: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/...stellar-chief/

A guy I watch on YouTube reviewed the first two episodes and liked them. He said he’s only played the games casually. I’ve only barely played a couple of the games myself.

I think a few theatrical movies were Atmos, but not the 4k/DV shows for some reason.

re: Halo: The Series (Paramount+) S: Pablo Schreiber -- premieres 3/24/22

The headline is weird, but he still liked it enough - it's got a 3.5 star rating:

Since development as a series was announced way back in 2013, Halo has miraculously kept Steven Spielberg on board as executive producer. There was never a chance The Beard would direct but keeping the live-action version of one of the biggest video game franchises of all time at Amblin Entertainment was enough to keep yours truly hopeful. Now that the 26th-century sci-fi tale has arrived on Paramount+, home of Star Trek, is there enough streaming space in the universe for another hero who (mostly) keeps his helmet on? Time will tell, but who needs Grogu when an assault by the Covenant boasts one of the most brutal openings in television. Suit up, Master Chief, you’re gonna need a weapon.
It's also a weekly series and goes into May.

Comes out tomorrow! I'm alittle concerned that apparently no critics have been given advanced access for review (at least nothing is on RT)...

that isn't true. Several sites have reviewed the first 2 episodes. Maybe not mainstream critics?

There were two replies to you within 15 minutes saying there were reviews. Some of them have been posted for over a week.

I'm really ambivalent about this. Enjoy the games but kind of bored by the lore. And not a fan of Sci Fi TV. Will still probably check this out at least the pilot.

AV Club reviewed this a couple weeks back, they seemed lukewarm on it but I definitely want to give it a watch.

10min in....this shit is BRUTAL. They are not holding back on the violence. Elements of the game are there which is cool. I hope the series is good.

Spartans and Elites(Covenant enemies) look great. Ships looks good as well.

Just finished ep 1. The Spartans are badass. Kinda got a Mandalorian vibe.

Yeah, just finished the first episode and it was badass. There's no profanity, but they more than make up for it with limbs and holes being punched into people. As GiantRobo mentioned - it's got a Mandalorian vibe and I'll say Starship Troopers vibe, as well. The 4K DV looked great, but no Atmos.

I just watched it. Was pretty fun. Great effects. Characters aren't that interesting yet. And yeah, very similar vibe to Mandarin but with a much less adorable Baby Yoda.

TV14 but people getting ripped in half by laser weapons and vaporized?

The special effects are like half the quality of The Mandalorian. They way they run and jump looks super cheesy.

re: Halo: The Series (Paramount+) S: Pablo Schreiber -- premieres 3/24/22

Also, I did smile while Master Chief's Body Shield was being damaged then it regenerated. The sound FX were accurate and very cool. It brought back gaming memories.

Another thing that is from the game, but also gave a very Star Warsy vibe in terms of appearance and...
Spoiler:
...."Creature SFX" was The Prophet of Mercy. You know, the alien in the floating chair who spoke to the Pale woman in Black? Was not expecting to see that and hope to see more Prophets. It seems they are pulling from the games heavily. .

Somebody ordered this to series with extra extra cheese but at least it isn't boring.

Yea thought it was just great. It was in Atmos for me not sure why Blu didn't get Atmos.

I dug it. I'm only a casual fan of the games, so it not following the lore of the games is no issue for me. I was pleasantly surprised at the effort made into making the story interesting and not just making the show a brain dead non stop action scene.

re: Halo: The Series (Paramount+) S: Pablo Schreiber -- premieres 3/24/22

That was interesting (and violent)! I could really get a read from the trailers, but there were a lot of plot surprises, so it makes sense they didn’t want to give away anything.

Its clear they’re trying to add a human element to the machines.

I was surprised they were going to have Spartans against UNSC.

Also, appears this MC does not have Cortona yet. Will be curious to see how that plays out.
