Looking for comedy show recommedations
Since my wife and I just had our third child, we've been on the hunt for some new comedy series that we can watch during feedings. Here are a few things I would like to consider.
We don't watch a lot of TV so we are really out of touch what has aired the past ten years or so, so any good recommendations would be much appreciated :) |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
I have a feeling my wife and I will never stop re-watching The Office. It's her Netflix comfort food.

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
the good place was / is very entertaining. its one of the only network shows my wife and I watch.
|
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
The Good Place. Both seasons are on Netflix and it's currently airing on TV. from the creator of Parks and Recreation.
It's animated, but my niece and I have been watching Boss Baby: Back in business on Netflix. It's a 1/2 hour animated comedy (13 episodes) based on the movie and it's quite funny. Might be amusing for you to watch since your a father of 3 kids with a newborn. |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
Both Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the aforementioned Good Place are from the same creative team members that did the Office and Parks and Rec. Both shows are excellent.

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
GLOW on Netflix was SO much better than it had any right to be. It's not even so much a show about pro wrestling as it is a great ensemble show that happens to have wrestling in it.
Plus season 2 drops next week so you don't have to wait like the rest of us had to. |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
Jane the Virgin (44 min eps, Netflix)
GLOW (Netflix) Kimmy Schmidt (Seasons 1 and 2 at least. Netflix) The Good Place (Netflix) The Office (Netflix) Parks & Rec (Netflix) Atypical (Netflix) Shameless US (60 min episodes, Netflix) Santa Clarita Diet (Netflix) I'd also temporarily get a Hulu subscription. How I Met Your Mother (Hulu) Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Hulu) Bob's Burgers (Hulu, Fox Now) Community (Hulu) Key and Peele (Hulu) It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Hulu, FX Now) American Dad (Hulu, I'm not actually recommending this, but I personally love it) Superstore (Hulu) The Mick (Hulu -- it's only two seasons but a fun watch) Happy Endings (Hulu) The Detour (Hulu, TBS) Brockmire (Hulu, IFC) |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
i am loving reliving Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Hulu. That is the funniest comedy on/was on? tv imo...

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
As for a show you probably haven't watched but you and your wife will both enjoy very much: Schitt's Creek
UK comedies that might be new to you that I believe are all available on Netflix (no particular order): Detectorists The IT Crowd The Office (UK) Fawlty Towers Extras The Inbetweeners Toast of London Some that I believe are available on Amazon Prime: Peep Show Coupling Black Adder Black Books Comedy is of course very subjective, but IMO these are all very funny. |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
One of my favorite underrated comedies is Better Off Ted, although it looks like that's on Hulu.
Looking at some of my other favorites, they all happen to be on Hulu oddly enough: My Name Is Earl, Community, Bob's Burgers The Tick (2001 live action) is a quick watch (just 9 episodes) that is on Amazon |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
Netflix - master of none, atypical, glow,
Amazon - mozart in the jungle, catastrophe, |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
^ Master of None and Atypical are fantastic. speaking of which when is Atypical back?
|
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
My wife and I have just about burned through Black-ish season one. Great family comedy. Alas, I think it's only on Hulu.
Also for all the Community recommendations, just watch the first three seasons. |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
I'm Sorry on TruTV (the station that plays Impractical Jokers nonstop). It's hilarious. Trust me.

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
I'm really fond of Younger, now in its fifth season. Sutton Foster is a favorite of mine. She plays a 40-something who poses as a 20-something to get a job in the publishing industry. (TVLAND)
Also, Brockmire, now in its second season, about a baseball announcer with many, many substance problems. (IFC) And, a blast from the past, Rescue Me was a terrific raunchy comedy about NY firefighters. (Not sure where to get this now) |

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
It only ran two seasons and was just canceled, but look for Nobodies. Great ensemble comedy about struggling Hollywood writers that feel left behind because their friends have all become stars, like Melissa McCarthy.

Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
30 Rock and Parks & Recreation
Avoid all the comedies on ABC and CBS since they are all shit. |
Re: Looking for comedy show recommedations
Thanks for all of the recommendations. Looks like we have some shows to check out. We'll start with the Amazon/Netflix ones first since we already have access to those.
