I'm a little confused. You just started season 3 or started the series?

Season 2 ended September 5, 2017. It was posted to Netflix in June.

USA doesn't have a Netflix streaming arrangement like The CW where it's available the week after it airs.

Finally watched the end of this

Overall not a bad season and in the finale some good action scenes

Didn't like see Julie being killed after everything she has been through

But overall, i'm not too cut up about it being cancelled

Would like to see the Bob Lee character make guest appearances in other shows, maybe Hawaii Five O or Magnum PI or SWAT

Re: Shooter (USA) -- S: Ryan Phillippe -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 6/21/18

Well, I just binged season 3 on Netflix--it became available a few weeks ago. I didn't really like this season overall. It started out okay with the wrap-up of the S2 plot and the introduction of the new threat, but it kind of dragged out in the middle. This really could have been reduced to 10 or even 8 episodes instead of 13.

And what a horrible fucking way to end the series, with Julie being taken out by a sniper only moments after Bob Lee heroically rescues her from the other baddies. Jesus, that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the whole series now.

My guess is that the writers/producers (anticipating the show continuing for more seasons) wanted to free Bob Lee from familial obligations (the daughter goes off to live with the aunt) and have him go to work as an operative for the new 'good' Atlas. That would have really opened up what they could do with the character in the future. But that ain't happenin' and we're left with a really sour ending to the series.

I think they wanted to write Julie's character out of the series because she was likely the second biggest expense after Phillippe himself, in the slim chance Shooter could get renewed on a lower budget.

Could be. I guess it's also possible Shantel VanSanten had decided not to return if even if the show was renewed and so they decided to kill her character off. Still sucks.

I think your first guess, -that she was killed to "free up" Swagger's character in terms of story possibilities, -is the most likely. That sounds more like producer/network thinking...

I suppose, though in that case Julie could have divorced him off screen (that's where the story was headed anyway) and Shantel just doesn't show up next season.
