Some early details: CBS Television Studios is going all in on “Star Trek.” Variety has learned that the studio behind “Star Trek: Discovery” has signed Alex Kurtzman to a new five-year overall deal that will see him supervise the expansion of CBS’ “Star Trek” franchise for television, developing new series, mini-series and other content opportunities, including animation. To that end, sources say there are currently multiple shows set within the “Star Trek” universe already in development. The potential new shows are said to include: A series set at Starfleet Academy from creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. The duo most recently developed the CW’s reboot of “Dynasty” and previously created shows like “Gossip Girl” and Hulu and Marvel’s “Runaways.” A limited series whose plot details are being kept under wraps. A limited series based around the “Wrath of Khan” story. Khan’s full name is Khan Noonien Singh. He was famously portrayed by Ricardo Montalbán in both the original series episode “Space Seed” and again in the film “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.” Benedict Cumberbatch then played the character in the 2013 film “Star Trek Into Darkness.” An animated series whose plot details are being kept under wraps. Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are rumored to be developing it: The new deal comes as rumblings about another Star Trek series, featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, have been heating up. Sources say Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, who left Discovery after season one, are attached to the Stewart-led reboot. CBS TV Studios declined to confirm the Stewart project as sources say a deal is far from completed and may not happen despite the fact that the actor recently teased his potential return to the franchise. Are these all going to be exclusively on CBSAllAccess? If so, pretty short-sighted of CBS to exclude much of Star Trek fandom (like me) who don't want to pay for yet another streaming service.

No way are these projects being developed for the free OTA CBS TV network.
And CBS All-Access just expanded into Canada. I was there about a week and a half ago and there were several CBS AA billboards in Toronto's times square. So it's got to be doing well enough with subscriptions to move into a new country now. |

"All Good Things..." establishes that 25 years after the series ended Picard had retired to a vineyard in France. So I guess this series would take place entirely on his vineyard.

I didn’t realize Kurtzman was so loathed. Yes, most of the Transformers films are hot garbage (there are some good concepts), but I thought Fringe was very well regarded around here. I mean it’s not like we’re talking Brannon Braga.
What ever happened to the Trek stuff Nicholas Myers was working on? Did that get shelved, or was it part of Discovery? |

He's made some great and fun TV shows in recent years like Fringe, Scorpion and Hawaii Five-O. I guess the people who are mad at him are those Trekkies who think he ruined "their" Star Trek with Star Trek 2009. |

Kurtzman is better at TV than movies, that's for sure.
I very much enjoyed Discovery but I'd like to see them carry this franchise into the future and not dry-hump the bones of the past so intently (*cough* Star Wars *cough*) |

I’ve thought a Starfleet Academy series could be a decent idea for years. I’m honestly surprised it’s taken so long to have the idea turned into something. It seems like an idea that could be made on a more limited budget but still set in the Star Trek universe.
A Khan series I’ve got no interest in personally. We’ve already seen his story told in the classic episode and two films. Not sure what more there really is to explore. The Picard series I’d be interested in most just because Stewart is awesome and I enjoyed TNG best out of all the Trek shows and have always liked the character. I’d be very interested to see him revisited even if only a limited series or a movie. |

Picard series would interest me the most. Gives the option to bring in other TNG alumni as guests here and there.
Starfleet Academy could be decent but could also become too teen angst-y. They could also position this in a timeframe to allow guest stars from other shows/movies. |

It might be interesting to do an Assignment Earth series with Gary Seven. (As was the plan to use that episode as a backdoor pilot in the 60s.)
Set in it in the current era with flashbacks to the swinging sixties, disco 70s, yuppie 80s, and Eugenics Wars 90s. It could include appearances by Khan and Flint. One thing that could be done with such a series is that Gary Seven, who is from the future, is there to ensure that the proper Star Trek future comes to pass by seeing that the Eugenics War and World War III happen, and that's why our current era looks nothing like the one seen in various Star Trek series. There's a point in the 1960s or 1970s that our timeline diverged from the Trek timeline. Could also tie Gary Seven into the Temporal Cold War from Enterprise. This could be cool, but it would be tricky as hell to pull off. |

I wouldn't mind another try with a new captain and crew - and keeping with the old formula. What's Seth MacFarlane up to? He'd make a great captain. ;) |

My take on a new Captain Picard project is that it will be Admiral Picard relating his days as captain of the Stargazer, and young Picard will be played by a new actor for those scenes.
Picard was commander of that ship for 22 years (not including his time as just a bridge officer). There's a lot of good stories to tell there. |
