Kidding (Showtime) - S: Jim Carrey - Series Thread
In his first series regular role in over two decades, Jim Carrey stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children's television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America's impressionable young minds, who also anchors a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when Jeff's family begins to implode, he finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through the crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking. Starring Jim Carrey, Frank Langella, Catherine Keener and Judy Greer. Don't miss the series premiere of Kidding Sunday, September 9 at 10/9C.

I don’t have Showtime so I’ll have to wait and find another way to watch it. It looks interesting though. And despite Carrey’s weird existential crisis over the last few years, I’m a big fan of his.

Sounds kinda interesting and while I think he’s hit and miss and has made some odd decisions in his career I do like Carrey. I have Showtime so I’ll probably give this a watch when it’s out.

I guess I was confused why a thread was created so far ahead of the premiere. I guess it's done for some series, like Star Trek: Discovery, where there's going to be a lot of advance discussion, but I can't imagine that happening for this show.

Just watched the pilot on demand. Liked it a lot. Very dark and weird in tone but still very good. I love Frank Langella and am happy to have him back on a show that I watch. Definitely has the surreal Gondry touch, which I'm always up for. I will continue to watch.

Watched the premiere and Carrey's Mr. Pickles/Jeff character is kind of a good person at his core but still a melancholic train-wreck with some serious complicated existential issues, probably not all that different from the actor's real self from what I know about him. Will continue watching for sure. I picked up Showtime for Who Is America?, and now I'm glad that I did for this as well. Their Clapton bio is worth checking out too.

Being a huge Jim Carrey fan (Love pretty much everything from him in the 90's/early 00's), I am rooting for this show to succeed. I thought the pilot was weird (although it was deliberate), so I will give it a few episodes before I decide to stick with it or bail. I will say if there is one person to play this strange character, it is Jim Carrey!

So far not impressed. HBO has better shows.
The only thing that got a laugh out of me was the big argument where one animal that was suppose to be a girl or a boy.

I like the low-key vibe of it. Jim Carrey is just so interesting in the role. And I'll watch anything with Frank Langella. But yeah it is pretty weird and kind of ambling. And I agree with Jeff, not very funny.
But I did appreciate the Judy Greer nude scene.

Huh. So... there's like... a free trial of Showtime, or... something?
Eh, I've got a DVD of Adaptation.

I'm surprised at all the comments calling the show "weird", it seems like a pretty straight-forward drama to me.
I enjoyed the first two episodes, but am wondering if the show plans to change things up, because right now, this material (fine as it is) would be better suited as a two hour movie theatrical movie instead of a five hour TV one.

I really liked the first two episodes. Jim Carrey is very good in this.
Unless it completely nosedives I'm in for the season.

I don’t get excited to watch this. But I’m always glad I watched it.
The kid going over the waterfall was ... something.
After the Robocop scene I’m convinced this season ends with Jeff snapping. Though I can’t see Gondry attaching himself to something like that.

Jim Carrey is quite good, as is Frank Langella. However, the show has such a grim sensibility, -yet another Showtime series where every single character is pretty much effed up or hard to take.

I know the previous episode ended on a very sweet note. But I’m still dreading that this is going to end with Pickles snapping ala that Happiness dream sequence.

That last episode was near-perfect. The way the shoes tied the whole show together was really effective.
I was also impressed seeing this, as I just assumed the shot was pieced together digitally using motion-control or something.
