GORDON RAMSAY'S 24 HOURS TO HELL AND BACK debuts on Wednesday, June 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The brand-new series will feature Ramsay driving to struggling restaurants across the country in his state-of-the-art mobile kitchen and command center, Hell On Wheels. In today's social media-driven world, everyone is an amateur food critic, and restaurants often find themselves one bad review away from shutting their doors. So, for the first time ever, Ramsay will try to bring each of these failing restaurants back from the brink of disaster - all in just 24 hours. First, he'll send in a team to record secret surveillance. Then, he'll go in undercover to see the problems first-hand. As the clock ticks down, Ramsay and his team will transform these restaurants with spectacular renovations, fresh new menus and hope for the future. It all builds to the end of the 24 hours, when grand re-openings of these restaurants will be held for the public.

Sounds very similar to Kitchen Nightmares, but at an accelerated pace. I’m there for this. Ramsay will also make something like this entertaining.

I like this sort of show from him much more than something like MasterChef. This gets much closer to the original Gordon. Also I hope they continue to leave off the FOX/Hell’s Kitchen narrator and have Ramsay himself handle it.

I'm still pissed that the cancelled Kitchen Nightmares. By far my favorite of his US shows. Sounds like this one will be right up my alley.

This was great. It's basically Kitchen Nightmares on steroids without all the extra fluff.
Gordon was his usual self. The owner was such a whiny man-child. I liked how Gordon put him in place.
And I at how disgusting their kitchen and freezer were with Gordon wanting to vomit.
The undercover aspect at the beginning was a little goofy, but I guess they want to differentiate it from KN in that he can see how they act without knowing it's him. It was a fun hour.

I can't see that place lasting for the long haul, too many hotheads.
Fun watch though.

Awesome episode this week.
That New Orleans restaurant was fucking disgusting. I kind of felt bad for the owner. Obviously his divorce really affected his overall psyche and motivation with the business. At least he wasn't a whiny bitch like last week.
Glad that Ramsay forced the owner to can that inept chef.
The best parts of these episodes are when Ramsay does the inspections. I was LMAO at his findings, especially the mouse in the toaster.

The mouse in the toaster is just beyond belief.
And I can't imagine someone losing his wife to a 19-year old neighbor. Fuck that! Though I guess it's not any different than those student/teacher scandals.

Well either they didn't use that toaster much or I suspect it was a plant to look good on TV. He's been accused of that before. Not that I don't like the show and I watch, I just take stuff like that with a huge grain of salt.

In the 3rd episode, I actually felt bad for the owner Clive. He was a mess psychologically due to the death of his young son.
So even during Ramsay's inspections, I kind of felt bad for him in a way. But, I did chuckle when he found all that disgusting grease and Clive said the restaurant is cleaned every 2 months.
I'm impressed so far with what Ramsay and his team have been able to accomplish in 24 hours.

3rd ep was solid. I think this was exactly what this restaurant needed, a seasoned guy who has lost his way, and an infusion of fresh ideas. I think these changes will stick. The last two eps, not so sure if those restaurants are still standing in 2 years...
I like these 24 hour makeovers, total gimmick, but it’s like trading spaces exhausting but fun...

So thankfully they left off the annoying FOX narrator, but they replaced him with incessant and way too loud background music and 10-20,000 screen wipe "whooshes" per episode. They wouldn't have to caption so many things people are saying if they would pare back the constant din of sound effects and awful music.

So this past week's episode I guess could be concluded as a failure.
Bummer to hear the Dad went back to being a douchebag and changing Gordon's menu. The son also said he doesn't paid anymore. He should just quit.
The best part of these episodes is Gordon's kitchen inspection. Those are good for a few laughs. I loved seeing him go off here.

The season finale aired a few days ago.
Here's an update on the story. Ramsay said in the episode they tried to reach out to Sandra Dee to no avail. Well, apparently she dumped Ramsay's menu.

Episode was shot in December. Basically she used the publicity of getting the free makeover to help drive up her business, but she no intention of sticking to Ramsay's menu. Went back to her old food.

I've been catching up on this show on the PVR, and have watched all episodes but one. Ramsay's pomposity and rudeness are on full display here. If I were sitting in a restaurant (or "reshtrunt", as he pronounces it) and some jagoff shouted, "Attention everyone, stop eating. Forks down and follow me", I would tell him to fuck off in no uncertain terms. Why everyone fawns over this disrespectful douche and follows his directions like sheep is beyond me. Famous chef or not, a good dose humility goes a long way.

One of the first jobs I had as a teenager was working in a restaurant kitchen (dishwashing!).
If someone in the kitchen acted like him, he wouldn't last long.
There are so SO many ways to make someone's life miserable in that business on a daily basis.
When people are paid peanuts, they tend not to give a fnck if they lose their job or not and there really is no limit to what they might do.
Antagonizing folks like that is not a smart idea...

^Yeah, true, it's probably just a persona. I have stopped watching most of his shows because of his abrasiveness and arrogance, but that very obnoxiousness is what brings ratings. I'd like to see someone knock Ramsay on his ass. Of course, that episode would never air.

If you are interested in the "real" Gordon Ramsay check out the BBC documentary series "Boiling Point" from 1998 and "Beyond Boiling Point" from 2000. Both are very interesting looks into Ramsay before he was a FOX property. Aside from looking into the very early days of the Ramsay empire, there are also some glimpses of the origins his proteges who have gone on to great success on their own as well as his business partnership with his father-in-law, a relationship that could now only be described as "complicated."
Also, bear in mind that running a family restaurant vs. an elite Michelin star restaurant could not be more different.
