If I remember right people did not really like it until season 2 and sort of warmed to it mid first season. I liked it from the beginning.

It's a phenomenal show. You just have to go in realizing that everyone is a terrible person and nobody is going to be worth rooting for. With that knowledge, you are good to go from the get-go. Fun right from the pilot.

I think it took me a few episodes to get hooked but when I did I really enjoyed it. I can say that it has re-walkability too as I recall rewatching the first two seasons before the third one came out and it held up fine on a second viewing. That said I don't think this is like Better Call Saul or BB, where I imagine I will watch it again years from now as it feels like a product of this era of excess and it lacks any sense of timelessness. I think it will feel dated within a decade or so at most.

I found the first half of the first season off-putting, just way too full of tired clichés about how people imagine these sort of people speak and behave to be taken seriously. Then either the show shifted or I did and I realized it was not meant to - or shouldn't - be taken seriously at all, and I started enjoying it for what it is...a vulgar dark comedy embedded in a caricature of a prestige drama.

Funny that this gets bumped. I just started the 1st episode last night on HBO Max. I had been putting off watching this as it didn't really sound like something I would normally be into. But, all the buzz about it got my to try it. I admit the 1st episode didn't really grab me yet. I'm assuming this is very loosely based on the Murdoch family as they were pretty big media tycoons. I will keep plugging on when I get the time.

I disagree. Obviously, people want and get different things from their entertainment choices, but I ended up rewatching the entire three seasons a few months ago, and since I'm interested in the way a serialized TV show is constructed narratively*, I got a lot of enjoyment in noticing things that you don't pick up on with a one-time watch.
*FWIW my GF is working on a pilot, along with an old colleague who has a development deal with Netflix, so she and I are looking at the way these series are structured a little more critically these days.

Having just cancelled my HBO Max sub, I'm pleased (and somewhat surprised) to see this isn't sneaking up on me and starting next week or something.

Fuck yeah. Although Spring 2023 release means that's at least 15 months since the S3 finale. Longer if it's the tail end of spring.

aawwww man. One of the few series I truly hope has a spin-off. As much as I hate most of these characters, I enjoy the storylines.
