I had FXX on in the background the other day and saw The Simpsons did an intro based on this a year or two ago and I couldn't help but wonder what the cross section between Simpsons viewers and Succession viewers really is.

They did a decent job with that intro.
I wonder what the cross section between any show and The Simpsons is nowadays. While I hear Simpsons references all the time, it's always from episodes way back in the day.
How are their rating the last 10 years? I guess it's good enough to keep getting renewed, but I have to believe it's a fraction of what it once was. Anecdotally, I don't know a single person who still watches it.

I watch it occasionally, usually reruns when nothing else is on. The ratings are bad but stable, which is more than most broadcast channels get anymore.

The episode where Flanders has lesbian cam girls living with him is on in the background as I type this. But even that is 15 years old now.

One of the best shows of recent years returns tonight for Season 3.

Been a long two-year wait.

BTW : Alan Sepinwall has gone so far over to the other side of the fence about Succession that he's going to be writing weekly Recaps for Rolling Stone. I find his recaps to be very informative and a useful way to keep the story straight. Found the reading of his recaps essential in my watching of Breaking Bad and The Americans.
Here's his first one this series, for last night's Succession premiere

I loved Logan considering Roman, getting the phone call from Roman, and then immediately saying he's out when they hang up

Man, 2 years is just too long between seasons. I don't even fucking remember who Naomi is supposed to be ...

Other than that I was thoroughly entertained by the premiere.

"No, those are relevant donuts".
"I'm too young to go before Congress so much"
"Do you choose me or do I choose you?"
"I am glad to see our Love Portfolio is not in imbalance"

That may have been the best episode of the series. Amazing. Unbelievably entertaining.

Re: Succession (HBO) -- Series Thread -- S: Cox, EP: McKay, Ferrell, C: Armstrong

Two brilliant episodes to start the season. Everything is so layered and cringeworthy. Very real feeling dialogue. Also the first two episodes have added a lot of fuel to my threory:
Spoiler:
Greg, who always seems so hyper, neurotic and not all that smart seems to always make the right move by accident. But I think he is far shrewder than he appears. In the end, he will win the "succession"

Yeah, I wasn't getting "chopping block" vibes for this show.

Greg's innocence is so awesome to watch. His whole existence in the show is just tip-toeing through the Roy minefield.

Logan is so rattled and worried about his kids jumping ship. You know it's because he's worried they'll fuck him over, but about 5% of it is due to him being alone.

Loving this season so far.

Greg innocent? Interesting take. But I love his character. I generally do not like Shiv but the realization that at 15 she was put into situations with a known sexual predator was pretty chilling. They are all so damaged.

Innocent in that he's naive, gullible and inexperienced with everything. Not that he's innocent of the cover-up, etc.

Re: Succession (HBO) -- Series Thread -- S: Cox, EP: McKay, Ferrell, C: Armstrong

Just caught up on this season and it's fantastic so far. It's so hard to like just about anyone on this show. I find myself rooting for people to F someone over more than rooting for a person. I was surprised to see Shiv and Tom confiding so much in one another and equally surprised to see Tom act somewhat adept at the family politics.

And yes they are all completely damaged... narcissists.
