First Time Watching - The Shield

Been burning through The Shield for the first time recently. I'm about half way through season 3 and had to post. I hope I can get through the rest of it before network shows come back with new seasons.

The episode Mum....what the fuck did I just watch? Aceveda choking on a dude while at gunpoint. So fucked up. I can only image the reaction that scene got back in 2004 when it was new.

Also, kinda strange watching this knowing that Michael Jace is in jail for murder (or manslaughter, whatever it was).

Yeah man. That was totally fucked up. I didn't watch it when it first aired either. I would of liked to see the reactions.

Get ready for a lot of recaps showing that scene again and again

Man, I wish I could watch this all over again for the first time.

Yeah, lol. I've already noticed. Watched a couple more last night.

Please don't spoil anything based on this comment but the guy on the team who had his face burnt has always seemed like a "red shirt" for some reason. I've been expecting him to die since season 1. Maybe it's because I don't know the actor? But even the character seems to be much more background than the others.

Right from the first episode

''Good cop and bad cop left for the day. I'm a different kind of cop."

One of the best sets of casts ever

Broke into season 4 yesterday. Happy to see both Close and Anderson in this season. Funny seeing how big Anderson used to be, similar to his L&O days. He's come a long way.

You watching on dvd or is it finally streaming somewhere? I’ve been wanting to give this a rewatch but never could find it on any streaming sites.

All 7 seasons are on Hulu. It's been on Hulu for awhile.

It's also on the new FX Plus streaming service.

Just wait. S5 is one of the best seasons put forth by any show IMO.

Whitaker in season 5 has been great. His flip-out after the botched sting was awesome.

Re: First Time Watching - The Shield

Couple episodes into s6 and I'm really getting tired of Whitaker's character. Would have been a perfect wrap-up for him at the end of 5; I don't get why they decided to drag it into a new season.

Also noticed that this season is only 10 episodes?? Some of the earlier were as high as 15.

Re: First Time Watching - The Shield

There was a strike in 2007? Although I'm not even sure if that's related to the shortened season.

Regardless, the final season was back to 13 episodes.

FX originally ordered season 5 as 21 episodes but later decided to split it into 2 separate seasons. 11 for 5 and 10 for 6.

Re: First Time Watching - The Shield

Gotcha; that explains it. Too bad it ended up that way. Definitely a show that could have easily been 15-20 every season. Plenty of material.

Re: First Time Watching - The Shield

I took a break for a bit but I'm back at it and half way done with the last season. Pretty funny see this quote now:

He's probably my favorite character at this point. i hope he lives through the end (no spoilers please). I just got through the episode where he almost bit it.

Season 6 was a bit dull but 7 has turned it up a bunch. I'll probably burn through the rest this weekend. This really has been one of the best shows I've seen, overall. It'a as close to a HBO show on a channel other than HBO that I've seen.

I always thought Ronnie was the real badass of the team, but he knew his place.

He always seemed like a nice normal guy but he was as corrupt and badass as the rest of them

I didn't finish this the first time it aired (we dumped cable) but I recently got through all of it on Hulu. It's a fantastic series. Especially for the time period.

Though I did shake my head at an early episode where they shot a black guy by mistake because he tried to pull a phone (I think) out of his pocket and were panicked about having to plant a gun. No reason to worry about that in 2018!

I think this is getting a BluRay release in December
