DC's Doom Patrol (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 2/15/19

Yeah this was really great. I thought the entire cast had great chemistry together and really enjoyed it. I figured the show was in good hands with Jeremy Carver running it. He was the one who got Supernatural back to watchable after the two awful Sera Gamble seasons. Glad Timothy Dalton took over the role of Chief as the last guy just came across as too sinister. It's too bad DC Universe is a flop according to some on here because they are missing what could be one of the best super hero tv shows on TV.

I read an article about a week ago that said this show has no intentions of living within Titans continuity, despite being introduced in that show. Seems an odd decision.

I would totally geek out if they made a Vertigo Universe with Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Shade. Probably too much to ask for Hellblazer to get thrown into the mix, but I’d love to seem them continue Matt Ryan’s Constantine in the same continuity.

I've always been interested in Doom Patrol but never read an actual full issue. I read the background of the comic, how it was similar to the original X-Men concept and yet pre-dated it by about 3 months. And of course, how great the later Grant Morrison run was.
This looks great and I'm glad it's getting good reviews here. I'll be checking it out soon.

It's rumored the budget for Doom Patrol is something like $20 million. A big-budget movie like Wonder Woman can end up running hundreds of millions after marketing costs. The level of risk is not comparable. You also have a different set of executives making decisions for the theatrical division (much more entrenched) than this streaming service. So they don't care if familiar names like Geoff Johns, who actually understand this material, run the show. If it flops, well it's only $20 million. Johns was just one voice among many working on the movies, for example. And no one with any real connection to the underlying source material has final say over the movies.

Wait, what? Can you link the article? That seems really odd considering they could easily just keep it separate from whatever Titans is doing without actually crossing over. I thought the whole reason Cyborg was in this was a nod to the Titans.

It's likely to give the showrunner more creative freedom if they are indeed separate. Writing a winning, hit show is hard enough, writing it while adhering to a different show's continuity is even harder.

Yeah, that was a messed up episode. I'm very much still in though. I wouldn't mind Robotman watching his language a bit though.
My wife fell asleep midway through (we were up too late) and then asked me what happened.
I said, "yeah I can't do that".

I love Tudyk's narration. Especially in the opening recap...."Hey welcome back to the shit show..."
He's the narrator, but also a dick.
And I liked the introduction of this version of Cyborg. This version IMO has shown more personality than the one we got in Justice League. The way they tied in his backstory with the current timeline was also cool.
This episode was a total mind trip drug induced fantasy with DC characters.

Doc to Nobody: "Who are you talking too?"
Nobody: "Grant Morrison Fans, DC Universe subscribers, Reddit users, and the 3 or 4 who stayed after the Donkey Fart..."

Also, ep 2 had THE BEST "previously on" I've ever seen on a show.

Pretty fun episode, but I missed Mr. Nobody's narration. The Doom Patrol fighting crazy Nazis in Paraguay.
at the bus trip to Paraguay and the graphic showing their trip.
This week's episode did give a lot more backstory to Larry before he became Negative Man.
Robotman cracks me up how he just curses randomly.

Good ep. The puppet show was damn cool and Silas Stone is an ass.
This show does an awesome job of making them feel like a dysfunctional family that truly cares about each other and have each other's back even if they kinda dont feel like it in the moment. They all seem like bickering siblings and Mama/Papa Bears all at the same time. I love that.
