Yeah, one thread for a show only available on one streaming service makes sense. Just spoiler major plot developments in the text.

It’s live. First ten minutes are great so far. If this keeps up, DCUniverse will officially be my best bang for the buck streaming subscription purchase ever.

I know absolutely nothing about Swamp Thing. Good first episode in my opinion.

I didn’t care for the first ep.
Was okay up until Madsen had her monologue at the bar. It lost me at that point and I have no idea what was going on.

Holy shit was that first ep great. Eerie, suspenseful, graphic. Loved it. So how does this Dr. Arcane, who’s cute as hell, relate to nemesis from original film and obviously comics? And Alec? Is this just a revamp series?

Why is it DC doesn’t release eps all at once, to keep you subscribed and them making $$?

Really enjoyed the first episode. Better than Doom Patrol, hope it's as good as Titans

i was enjoying the biology and biochemistry stuff. I would have been happy with a bit more of that before Alec became swamp thing

So far, DC streaming is 3 for 4. Titans is the only dud out of 4 shows and, even then, it's more uneven then truly bad. Young Justice, Doom Patrol and (so far at least) Swamp Thing have been really terrific stuff.

Dug it. I started watching TITANS again this weekend and my wife decided to watch so we binged s1 and SHE LOVED Titans. So since we were on a DCU series roll... I told her about Swamp Thing ep1 and she wanted to see it...

She is now into 2 DCU shows now. I think Doom Patrol is too weird for her but who knows...

Probably. Remember that DC doesn't have a ton of fresh, exclusive content. So they want new subscribers to hang around, instead of binging 3-4 shows over a week and dropping the service.

Re: Swamp Thing (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- premieres 5/31/19

The problem is, shows on these streaming services are niche shows. Stuff that is unlikely to be anywhere else on regular TV. If the management is treating content like broadcast TV, with the viewership that comes along with it, have already failed. I would not be shocked if DC Universe gets folded into the WB service, if they are so concerned about subscriber numbers.

Aquaman and Shazam weren't bad... Plus, Matt Reeves is working on The Batman and James Gunn on The Suicide Squad.

From what has been said, it just sounds like the AT&T bosses wanted the show gone.

Did someone post this yet (I've been trying to avoid spoilers since I haven't watched any episodes):

A paperwork error?

Re: Swamp Thing (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- premieres 5/31/19

North Carolina promised a $40m tax rebate that, due to a paperwork error, they were unable to deliver. That was roughly half the proposed budget for s1 (which is estimated at $80m).

When NC discovered the error, the corrected. WB shut down production, realizing they'd be taking a bath on the rebate and paying for far more of it than assumed. The adjusted number from NC is something like $14m. That's a massive difference.

Re: Swamp Thing (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- premieres 5/31/19

Yeah it's just confirmation of what we've already known.

But...
"While reviews for DC Universe's Swamp Thing have been quite positive, the series has reportedly been cancelled after only one episode has aired. The initial report came from came from GWW, which claims the decision is the result of WarnerMedia and AT&T executives not liking several things about the show. That includes not liking the creative direction, the performances, or the budget. Cast and crew were reportedly alerted late last night about the decision.

The rest of the season will run its course on DC Universe, but it appears that will be all the Swamp Thing fans will get, at least of this iteration."
Bet they wanted more bright 80's colors with more jokes. Anyway, I wonder who's performance sucked?

the first show was great. Doom Patrol and Titans are awesome. What is wrong with these people?

Pretty much knew it was one and done as soon as "creative differences" and "3 episodes dropped" came to light.

Re: Swamp Thing (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- premieres 5/31/19

That sucks.

Titans started strong but ended up scattered.

I've made it through 4 episodes of Doom Patrol and always wished I had smoked pot before I watched every episode so I would understand what the fuck is going on. I love the bizarre nature of it but jeez...it makes Twin Peaks seem normal sometimes.

Really enjoyed the first episode of Swamp Thing and was ready to dig into the second. It was the one that seemed to have the most promise of the three shows after Titans kind of fizzled out.

It is really cool having all the comics and old DC TV shows on the service. The remastered episodes of Shazam! look freaking fantastic and it has been enjoyable going through the old syndicated Superboy series since it never played in my area when it was originally aired.

I enjoy the service but they need to figure something out obviously.

Re: Swamp Thing (DC Universe) -- Season 1 Thread -- premieres 5/31/19

So it sounds like the loss in North Carolina tax credits is really what got Swamp Thing canceled. We are talking millions and millions in more expenses without the credit, which instantly made the show an expensive loss for WB.

I was surprised they chose Swamp Thing in the first place, only because that is a very FX-driven concept requiring expensive CGI and make-up. The Phantom Stranger would have come cheaper.
