She is pretty terrible - horrible casting there.

Unfortunately even though we live in a binge watch, streaming and DVR culture, many shows still can’t survive without live viewers.

If you read the story I posted, due to this show being an independent production, the financial arrangement only benefits SyFy on the linear TV airings.
Plus, if you were interested in season 2 after watching Season 1 on Amazon, nope, Syfy only streamed the last 5-6 episodes of season 2 and didn't let you watch the beginning of season 2. Then over 1 year later, it shows up on Amazon. By that time, I had forgotten about the show.

Syfy is using 12 monkeys as a test case for binge watching by releasing the previous season all in one weekend. This year, they are trying over a couple of weekends so Syfy is known for experimenting with the schedules. It's just likely this show was too expensive relative to the ratings.

The suck @SyFy continues. Hoping Netflix, Amazon or someone picks it up. We've been enjoying it immensely.

I am half way through the second book and I have to say the casting for the show was absolutely perfect ... if it was a book. TV shows aren't books and there needs to be more of an impact to a character and unfortunately the shows casting is at best dull.

That being said I like the show and it drove me to the books, which are an easy, but really good read.

I'm also reading the books. I have about 100 pages of book 2 left and the show is just a bit ahead. I still watch it every week on the Space channel here in Canada. Too bad it got cancelled, I enjoy it quite a bit.

Anybody else find Holden's gigantic red nose distracting in the last episode? I was bursting into laughter during the serious scene with Naomi because "the nose" is all I was seeing. Or maybe I'm just easily amused.

Sad news about the show getting the ax, but I was surprised it actually got three season. At least we have a great series of books to fall back on.

Disappointing to hear. I haven't started watching this season yet, but I've been enjoying the show.

That pretty much kills any motivation I had to watch the rest of the season.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 3 Thread -- premieres 4/11/18

Jesus, so I started watching the first episode of season 3 on demand and realized I completely missed season 2. Have watched a couple of episodes of that season now and will eventually get to this season.

Question though, I like the show but seeing the comparison to Battlestar and Breaking bad makes me wonder if this gets significantly better? Its fairly smart and seems to have good production but I dont see it on par with those shows as of yet...

Season 2 absolutely does get better - one of the best seasons of a sci-fi TV show I've ever seen. Even if the show doesn't get resolved, it's still worth watching.

When? I'm 4 episodes into season 2, and it's still only mildly better than season 1.

Little more than halfway through - it's all mostly setup to get the ball rolling later. The good stuff wouldn't be as good without the setup. Though, YMMV.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 3 Thread -- premieres 4/11/18

When exactly is the final season three episode?

I've seen 2 stories. One indicated a shortened season with the series finale at the end of this month.

Another mentioned we would still see the full final season with the show going through to July.

Have a link for the shortened season story?

Nothing I've read (in all the cancellation articles) has said anything about the season being cut down from the ordered 13 episodes. The episodes have to be complete or almost complete as episode 6 is this week. SyFy doesn't have a great track record to begin with but pulling S3 mid-season would be low even for them.

Hope this gets picked up elsewhere... It's only gotten better.

Thanks I'll finish the show no matter what. I do like it, just don't feel the "brilliant" like so many seem to do...

They won't drop the remaining episodes, -SyFy's (or, really, the parent company's) go-to move is to shift it to a less-than- Prime time-slot (since it's all paid-for).

Maybe if SyFy could put together a trailer this good, they'd have more viewers and wouldn't have had to cancel the show...

I still have never watched this but I intend to one day. A podcast I listen to mentioned part of the reason SyFy cancelled this is because they were dumb and only acquired the first-run rights. Any streaming or rebroadcast rights were originally picked up by other outlets.

ETA: DJariya covered it, sorry!

I'd be real happy if Amazon picks this up, assuming they don't try to "fix" it. They should have the cash with their $20 increase to Prime.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 3 Thread -- premieres 4/11/18

So if anybody has read the books... Have the seasons basically been adaptions of the first 3 books? Wondering if this was to end after this third season, and they have been based on the books, how big of cliffhanger is there leading into the fourth book? Given how things are going it seems like the logical conclusion is that Earth, Mars, and the Belt all work together against this new Proto race enemy.

I have not read the books yet, but asked a similar question before. Basically the end of book one was around the middle of season 2, and the show is currently around the end of book 2 / beginning of 3.
