Re: Roseanne (ABC) -- Season 10 Thread -- premieres 3/27/18

Cancelling the show certainly does blow for everybody that makes money off the show Rosanne that isn't Rosanne. Especially any money that would have been made by the running of the previous seasons. Makes me wonder if lawsuits are coming because of all of this.

Good question. Could others sue Roseanne for being the reason they lost their job?

I doubt it. Even so, wouldn't they have to sue the network ( and Viacom) instead. Roseanne didn't fire anybody, she just set in motion her firing, which set in motion everything else. Much in the way you sue a restaurant if the server scalds you with coffee.

I see what you're saying but you sue the restaurant cause waiters don't have any money to give up. Otherwise they'd get sued as well. Roseanne has plenty. Maybe a civil suit?

Why do these frothing Roseanne apologists have such a raging hard-on for The View?

Equating the looks of a black person to an ape doesn't exactly qualify as a 'belief'. It's just racist and shitty.

I dunno.. based on Jarrett's make up, and some lighting, there is some likeness with one of the costumes from the Burton version of PotA. From an objective point of view, if possible.

Doesn't excuse what Roseanne did tho.

Re: Roseanne (ABC) -- Season 10 Thread -- premieres 3/27/18

Roseanne update: ABC might put costars in new show

There could be a scenario in the works where ABC salvages significant parts of Roseanne without having to say goodbye to some of the best actors on television (here’s looking at you, Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman). Though ABC made a swift decision Tuesday to cancel the successful reboot, EW has learned that ABC has not exactly washed its hands of the family comedy.

Here’s the challenge, though: Roseanne was created by Roseanne Barr. The characters were conceived by her and Matt Williams. If the sitcom were to continue without the matriarch, the actress would still benefit financially. So a key insider informs EW that discussions will continue today on whether it makes sense to keep the other actors but potentially design a new series around them — ergo, the Bonners, or whatever you want to call Goodman, Metcalf, and the clan of misfits. Nothing has been decided, however, and various options are still being weighed.

It’s not as if everyone scattered after Tuesday’s cancellation announcement. After ABC ordered a second season of Roseanne in March, EW confirmed that cast options were picked up for another 13 episodes. Carsey-Werner, which produces the sitcom for ABC, is still on the hook for paying those salaries. And since ABC ordered a new season, it bears its own financial brunt from the cancellation. So keeping some kind of show intact wouldn’t be the worst decision for ABC.

Hey, if they can bring Dan back from the dead, they can kill off the main character and carry on, right?

Have Rosanne's character die of cancer because she lost her healthcare when Trump became President.

Nope, I'm saying any particular individual can be ugly/pretty enough combined with make up and lighting to resemble something else. You're not immune to ppl having an opinion in response, so its important to know your audience.

This is pretty much the douchiest thing I've read on this forum since the scott shelton era.

Roseanne should announce that she's creating a new sitcom featuring herself, Mel Gibson, Paula Dean, Michael Richards, and Hulk Hogan. And then sit back and watch social media reacts.

Actually, Jarrett may have been the single most influential person when it came to influencing President Obama, so much so that I think I've read some people refer to her as the "real" president.

The ABC website that let you watch season 10 episodes for free has been taken down.

I will obey the DVD Talk rules that forbid us from posting links to other places where you can watch season 10.

That being said, when the owner of intellectual property chooses to withhold said content from the marketplace, I can see a strong argument in favor of these alternative methods of viewing said property.

Forget video games and other scapegoats. Twitter and online communication in general is the most callous and toxic thing you can expose yourself to. I realized this recently and cut my usage probably 50% or more.

I suspect this is going to be a trend and social media is going to suffer.

Re: Roseanne (ABC) -- Season 10 Thread -- premieres 3/27/18

This is pretty bad though because it makes a lot of actors/actresses jobs seem far less secure. All it takes is one loudmouth in twitter for dozens of people to lose their job? It's beyond ridiculous. I get why ABC decided to quickly cut ties based on such things, but this has further reaching consequences beyond just Roseanne cutting her own throat.

Well the complete series dvd set is sold out on Amazon. Canceling all streaming and pulling the show from syndication doesn’t feel right either. I don’t agree with acting like the show doesn’t exist due to a dumb mistake of its star. The Cosby Show, 7th Heaven, and Seinfeld are still widely available for viewing, and some of those show’s stars have done things far worse.
