Excellent. Reminded me of some of the better, satirical later season episodes.

Mulder: "Why is your house so much nicer than mine?"

A fun idea that went nowhere....a scary commentary on where we are headed I suppose?

I like the fact that the first 30 minutes had no dialogue (and thank God Scully went back to her 'female FBI-agent bobbed haircut')

Since the climax of the episode all led up to whether or not a tip was being left it would have been nice to have held the shot a little longer. As it was I had to rewind the DVR twice to see if he had actually hit the screen or not.

Overall, this had a lot of potential but fizzled. They started out very ominous and bleak and then ended up trying to make the tone more jokey and comedic.

Still, one of the best episodes this season so far....

That could have been a Black Mirror episode.

Watching last night's X-Files episode. Funny and absolutely terrifying at the same time. Lesson learned, ALWAYS tip the automated sushi chef, no matter how bad your meal... And don't tick off the drones!

I mean, it wasn't as bad as the mythology episodes, but just didn't feel like an x-files episode.

Why would a robot/automated chef want a tip? It would be like tipping a cigarette dispenser.

Seems like the consensus for this season is: Stand alone=good, mythology=massive pieces of shit. Yep, feels like the X-Files for sure.

Did I miss some setup to this episode? Or are they saying that all that technology is common in the X-Files universe? When they episode started, I thought Scully and Mulder were testing some kind of smart home technology. It seems that Scully's home really had all that advanced home automation stuff. So self driving cars are common also?

I believe all the technology featured is real and probably becoming more common everyday.
The central theme seemed to be the isolationism of modern technology. That's why there was no dialog in first part of episode. Speech is no longer required in a modern techno society.
After Scully and Mulder part at the restaurant it is like they are each the only person on the planet yet they engaged in activities that used to require human contact.
For contrast, at the end we so them in a restaurant surrounded by people and paying the bill with cash instead of credit card.

The episode was also poking fun at the frustration of dealing with modern technology, and how the only recourse for the frustration is more technology.

Loved that part just because I was wondering how the hell Scully afforded a house like that right before he showed up
