4Chan making an appearance!
Just when you think Homeland couldn't get any more ridiculous plot lines, we get ransomware attempted rape!

While the ransomware plot was stunningly ridiculous - to put it kindly - at least I was invested enough to actively root for the scummy hacker caricature to get the better of Carrie. Certainly not to have sex with her (BTW, everything sexual came up entirely at her suggestion), but to release the gist of her latest criminal enterprise to the public. I was hoping that was what he was actually doing when he was 'unlocking' her laptop under the threat of further extreme physical violence and/or murder over a king's ransom of $20,000.
And the biggest crime of all: they have even made whatever Saul is into boring. Used to be the parts of the show that didn't involve Carrie were worth sticking around for, so this is not good, not good at all.
As I was opening this thread to post I noticed that this is now in season 7 and I realized I have been watching at least three seasons too long (probably more, but I'm in a generous mood).

Well, she is CIA, mother****er! Because only the most highly trained spook would know that the best way to quickly locate a hacker is to casually download and open files from anonymous users on the internet.

I do wonder what actors think when they get the script and it says, "Strip and play with your boobs in front of a computer screen for some creepy guy....."

The hacker could have been anywhere in the world, good thing he just happened to be within driving distance.

God, I feel so stupid watching this show.
A trained CIA operative...oh, I'll forget my Cyber Security training (that every government employee has to take), and download this random file off 4Chan.
The rest is just a mess. And I'll keep watching to see it through.

Agree with all the comments about this episode. But here we are. And we keep the episodes threads active.
So the lithium may not work anymore, uh? What if this season is all in Carrie's head? just kidding!
Or maybe Quinn is in a coma and it's his dream. Season finale, Quinn wakes up! boom!
Homeland will always be Homeland, but yeah, the strongest seasons were the ones in the middle east.

Well, what I meant in my original post was that the show's best seasons were when it was focusing on how the CIA handles Islamic fundamentalist terrorism and episodes where they were supposedly in the Middle East.
Basically Seasons 1 to 4, with 5 being the weakest.
Like I said before, I enjoyed 6 only because of Rupert Friend's swan song.
This season appears to be going for the bottom of the barrel. I'm already tired of the stupid radio show host on the run storyline and as others have pointed out, the writing is very bad so far.
Not sure why they are going to bother going for a final Season 8 if this is the best they can do.

From what I understand the plan is to film season 8 in Israel. It's supposed to be the show coming full circle returning to the Middle East and also a tribute to the source material "Prisoners of War" which is an Israeli TV show Homeland is based on.

IMO, the best seasons were 1 and 2, and the show has never come close to that level again.
The worst thing they ever did was out Brody early in Season 2 as they had nowhere to go after that. The show was setup that he would work his way up government while still being a Terrorist, and only Carrie was suspicious. But because she could never prove it, it would be a cat and mouse game as he went from Senator to VP to President. How f’n cool would it been if in Season 5 you have President Brody, and whether he continues as a secret Terrorist or has a crisis of conscious?
The post-Brody Homeland (Season 4) is just pure guilty pleasure ‘24’ style as this show could have been so much more. The Carrie vs Brody original plan before he was outed would have been so much more interesting, and could really delved deep into everything. They dropped the ball outing Brody in Season 2, and honestly the show was never the same. It went from a great show to a guilty pleasure of how over the top Carrie can be.

I still enjoy it to an extent, mainly because most tv shows suck so much, but this was great now it's just decent.

I think I have to stop watching this show. It's not just the ridiculous plotlines but also the radio host with an accent that wanders all over the planet. My wife and I used to look forward to Homeland (back in the first couple of seasons), and when I put it on this week she said "Do we really need to keep watching this ?". I think I agree with her. It's beyond awful.
