Were you ever able to get more of the Madame's Place episodes? I have about 25 also (the first 20 plus a few more), but not many of the later episodes in the series. I ran a fan club for Madame when I was in grade school, based on the show. For me, this show was groundbreaking. Wayland Flowers created a completely believable lead character that carried the show, and yet she was a puppet.

I'd love to hear from other fans, especially if you have episodes you taped at the time!

Re: Madames Place

I've just started to post "Madame's Place" episodes on my YouTube channel, called Tavs Television. I'm not allowed to post a link here until I reach 30 posts, sorry.

I've got 5 more VHS tapes to go through, so I'm going to get them all up in due time. Right now I have about 12 episodes uploaded from 1 VHS tape.
These were recorded off USA Network in 1989-1990, each tape recorded in 6 hour mode.

Oh man, I loved that show! After SNL, my local station would run Sha Na Na and Madame's Place back to back(after SCTV). I'm definitely going to check out your YouTube channel!

Re: Madames Place

Great channel with a lot of episodes, on TAVs Television, but I'm looking the episode 33. It would be great if I found it. Thanks

It's a scientific fact that hardcore Madame's Place fans hibernate 10-11 months out of the year. They awaken from their slumber in late January and go back to sleep no later than mid-March. That's why February is when they do all their Madame's Place watching.

Madame was a puppet. She was old and scraggy, wore too much jewelry, and had a raunchy sense of humor. She was quick-witted enough to keep up with Carson and Letterman. Sadly, the puppeteer Waylon Flowers died of AIDS.

I'd bet good money that David Letterman never had Waylon Flowers and Madame on his show, and I'd bet some money that Madame never did a non-scripted bit.

I may be wrong about Letterman. The first video I clicked on was unscripted.

Re: Madames Place

Madame's comeback ("Oh gosh") to the interviewer's spontaneous comment about women showing their roots is comedy gold.

You've moved the goalposts from "it's all scripted" to "some of the improv isn't funny enough."

I'm not even a fan, but that's silly.

I thought the implication of my observation was obvious. It was scripted in the sense that the interviewers were asking pre-approved questions that Madame had prepared jokes for. This is not a scandal. This is very common when comedians are interviewed. The interviewers are given talking points to ask about because the comic has a prepared "hunk" on that subject.

And I know the female interviewer actually said, "This isn't scripted." But that just convinces me more that it is.

I was more reacting to the absurdity of this comment
She was quick-witted enough to keep up with Carson and Letterman.
at the idea that Flowers was Bill Burr with a puppet.

But let's take a moment to acknowledge that we have now spent more time thinking about Waylon Flowers and Madame than any other two people will in 2021.
