Great episode. My only complaint is the writers relying on the unsupportive, kinda bitchy (ex)wife plot. By the way, imbeciles online are flipping about the reveal that Thunder is a lesbian, saying that this is because we have "SJW forcing this shit upon us instead of creating a new character that is gay". Those imbeciles apparently never read the source material as Thunder has always been gay.

This show is pretty brutal for The CW.

I liked this one more than the pilot. Cress is kind of growing on me as Black Lightening. I also really like James Remar in this. Kind of surprises me that there isn't any pushback in this PC era for how one of the only three white characters on the show is portrayed as a genius and most of the black people are portrayed as criminals with a couple exceptions.

By the way, imbeciles online are flipping about the reveal that Thunder is a lesbian, saying that this is because we have "SJW forcing this shit upon us instead of creating a new character that is gay".
To be fair thogh, this is the Berlantiverse where every character who is gay either has to be a badass(see Lance,Sara, Cold, Captain, Danvers, Alex, Nyssa) or have superpowers(Thunder, The Ray), and if you arent gay well make you gay to have more gay characters(see Holt, Curtis)(and yes I know Thunder is gay in the comics).

Trust me, there IS criticism of this online. I even pointed it out in the Pilot thread. It's the "White Savior" trope and the Black Hero fighting Black Drug Dealers/Gangs trope.

Wow no vitriol in that post there.

(and yes I know Thunder is gay in the comics).
So why even mention it then. They are following the source material. There is none your Gay Agenda Conspiracy/Forced Gayness being done here. I also posted a warning.. with you in mind to be honest...that the "Gay stuff" was on the horizon.

I like this show.

I missed when they said why no one can see he is Black Lightning, what was it?

Liked how that woman essentially Gran Torino’d LaLa.

I’m not familiar with the comic book versions of these people I guess Whale has super powers too?

Pierce's youngest daughter mentioned to her boyfriend that looking directly at Black Lightning's face hurt, cause it was looking straight at a spotlight and that it was really blurry.

Tobias Whale is kinda like DC Comic's version of the Kingpin. Just a strong mob boss who is ruthless. In the JLU cartoon, Tobias didn't have powers but his son did, at one point fighting Batman Beyond with telekinesis.

I am loving this and the fact that they used 2 Al Green tracks and Latimore for the soundtrack of this episode is amazing.

I was not expecting Lala to shoot that mother in cold blood. That was pretty brutal.

Agreed, I turned to my wife during the first minutes of the pilot and said we are in for treat soundtrack wise with it starting off with Strange Fruit. That is a deep track to start the series off with. Really digging the music.

Yeah whoever is in charge of the music for this show is ding a great job. I've had Al Green in my head all day thanks to this episode and that's not a bad thing.

Yup. At least Lala had good taste in music.

It looked like his friend, the police chief definitely recognized him as BL.

The first two episodes feel like they were written when this was still being considered for Fox. It copies a lot of elements and style from Empire.

I was thinking it seemed like a CW show because everyone is so good looking. Skye Marshall is stunning.

Djaryia- Don't forget Bobby Blue Bland in the last episode.

Yeah it looked that way. But I also took that scene as him realizing BL may truly be back. I know Tobias thinks he killed BL years ago and that this BL is a copy cat...I'm guessing the Chief was thinking the same as of the 1st ep.

Yeah I feel like the writers KNOW the culture and characters. The conversations are very raw and realistic. Not cleaned up so as not to offend certain folks.

Loving the show so far, but as someone who grew up on much of the music on the soundtrack, I think it's overused to the point of being grating. It's bordering on fetishism.

You mean all the 70/80's soul? I'm sure it will change as the series progresses. I will say there isn't another show on TV where you'd hear Latimore or Bobby Blue Bland.
