From Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television, A CHRISTMAS STORY LIVE! is inspired by the holiday classic feature “A Christmas Story” and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production “A Christmas Story: The Musical.” Marc Platt (“Grease: Live,” “La La Land,” “Wicked”) and Adam Siegel (“Grease: Live”) will executive-produce, with Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary (“Grease: Live,” “Anything but Love,” “Ira & Abby”) serving as co-executive producers and writers. Scott Ellis (the 2016 Broadway revival of “She Loves Me,” “Weeds”) is an executive producer and will serve as the director overseeing the stage direction. Alex Rudzinski (“Grease: Live,” “Dancing with the Stars”) is an executive producer and will serve as the live television director. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“Dear Evan Hansen,” “La La Land”) who composed the original score to “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” will compose several new songs for the LIVE television event airing Sunday, Dec. 17 (7:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.
Two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “The Producers,” “Manchester by the Sea”) will star as the narrator where he will play the grown-up “Ralphie Parker,” who looks back with love and humor on his favorite childhood Christmas. Broderick joins previously announced Emmy Award nominee Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live,” “Bridesmaids”) in the three-hour live musical production. After a nationwide digital casting call, 11-year-old Andy Walken, from Seattle, WA, has been cast in the role of “Ralphie Parker." Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “30 Rock”) and Emmy Award nominee Chris Diamantopoulos (“Good Girls Revolt,” “Silicon Valley,” “Episodes”) have been cast in featured roles. Ana Gasteyer will play “Mrs. Schwartz,” the mother of one of “Ralphie’s” friends. Ken Jeong, David Alan Grier and PRETTYMUCH will also take part in the special. Ken Jeong will play two roles: a Christmas tree salesman and a restaurant owner. David Alan Grier will play Santa Claus and PRETTYMUCH will perform as the Hohman Indiana carolers.

I’m guessing they’re going to rely on the adult cast and Matthew Broderick for the majority of dialogue. Otherwise, I’d be terrified to place the bulk of the live production in the hands of child actors.

BTW : I saw Chris Diamantopoulos on Broadway in Waitress back in June. He's pretty talented.

3 hours? Yikes. I'll watch for bloopers.
Do all of these Live! Productions have as much stedicam work? It's actually kind of impressive.
Broderick seems out of breath

I turned it on right where Ralphie’s dad gets the leg lamp. I turned it off about 5 minutes later when they were still doing a musical number about the leg lamp.

I never cared for A Christmas Story ... on the other hand, my brother used to watch as much of the 24 hour marathons as he possibly could. He has a leg lamp. He wants to go visit the house where the movie was filmed (it’s a bed and breakfast and you can actually ate the night). That said ... he is PISSED. His texts have been quite entertaining.

I noticed two towards the end.
--"put the purkey" and how they played off of that
--the dad had to fake a fumble to tear the tablecloth off the kitchen table since the dog didn't do it
I was "meh" about the first two hours but liked the final hour (Christmas Day).

The Chinese restaurant change was clever. I was wondering how they would handle that part.

The beginning seemed odd since I wasn't sure what was "Live" live and what might have been pre-recorded to facilitate things.
I tried but I eventually gave up on it. For me, the size of the production worked against the "intimacy" of the story.

Re: A Christmas Story Live! (FOX) -- premieres 12/17/17
The vitriol here is a bit much. People are acting like this is some huge insult to the movie when making a musical version of a popular movie for Broadway has been done countless times. This one was actually well-received and was nominated for Tonys. Unlike, say, the Christmas Story 2 movie with Daniel Stern the ACS musical seems to be somewhat credible. Furthermore, it’s not as if this production is gunning for the movie’s 24-hour Christmas marathon spot or anything.
That said, I got bored with it and decided to stop at the halfway mark so I’d have an easy pickup point if I decided to finish it later. Musicals aren’t really my thing. There could be a free Broadway-quality live performance of a musical playing right next door to me and I probably wouldn’t go to all but a small handful of shows. I was satisfied with the non-musical portions and impressed with how cinematic it was. I was expecting it to look like a 3-camera sitcom.

I caught a few minutes at work. Looked like a train wreck. But I’ll probably give it another try since I recorded it.

It wasn't, it came off like a pretty solid performance of what appeared to be a very middle of the road musical.
Some cool camera work, but it took away from the "live" aspect a lot.
