SMILF will take a raw and honest comedic look at a single, 20-something from Southie, Bridgette (Frankie Shaw), whose desires for relationships, sex, and a career collide with the realities of young, single motherhood. Adapting her Sundance Film Festival Jury award-winning short film, Shaw will star, write, produce and direct the semi-autobiographical comedy, with Oscar(R) nominee Michael London (Sideways), Emmy(R) nominees Janice Williams (Confirmation), Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Bad Teacher), and Scott King (Difficult People) executive producing. Multiple Emmy winner Rosie O'Donnell will co-star in her first series regular TV role as Tutu, Bridgette's prideful Southie mother who lives by her own set of rules. The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios as a co-production with SHOWTIME.

I liked the first week better.
Some funny scenes in the second episode, though. "It burns..."
Very weird, too, is that the lead looks a lot like an old friend of mine.

unless the show gets a lot of buzz this is a one and done for me. I don't particularly like Rosie O'donell
I'm from MA and its "Dunks", not "Dunkies" just nothing compelling about it for me...

This is the primary barrier keeping me from watching this show. I can't stand her and never have since I had to tolerate her in movies in the early 90's.
If her role is a like a minute or two an episode I can probably deal with it but otherwise no way.

Good episode, tonight. I was uncomfortable through the whole meeting with the dude, as it turns out, justifiably.
Nice to see Raven Goodwin in this episode. She was good her small role in The Station Agent.
It's looking like Samara Weaving is going to play an ongoing character. Initially she was only listed as being in one episode.

Just watched the first two episodes. Seems pretty good but makes me a little uncomfortable. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Like the pro-vaccine sentiment though.
Don’t really know the lead from much but liked her in Seaon 1 of Mr. Robot.

I kind of petered out on Season 1. Think I watched 6 of them. Maybe I'll go back and watch the rest.
It was covered in the Sexual Harassment in Hollywood thread, but Season 2 hasn't gone swimmingly and Samantha Weaving is leaving now.
'SMILF' creator Frankie Shaw investigated by ABC Studios over misconduct allegations

ABC Studios has concluded an investigation into "SMILF" creator and actress Frankie Shaw, according to Variety.
The Hollywood Reporter and Variety report the network started an investigation into Shaw's alleged misconduct following numerous complaints from the staff, including actress Samara Weaving. The actress, who plays Nelson Rose in the first and upcoming second season, complained over a couple of mishandled sex scenes.
The investigation concluded that Shaw did nothing wrong, according to Variety, but Weaving was released from her contract as she requested.
In a statement to USA TODAY, Shaw addressed the allegations through her lawyer, Andrew Brettler: "It pains me to learn that anyone felt uncomfortable on my set. I sincerely hope we can work together to resolve any and all issues, as I am committed to creating a workplace in which all people feel safe and heard."Actress Samara Weaving arrives at the Los Angeles Premiere "SMILF" at Harmony Gold Theater on October 9, 2017. During Season 1, Weaving was initially asked to film a sex scene nude despite a no-nudity clause in her contract, according to THR. After expressing her discomfort, Shaw allegedly brought Weaving into her trailer and lifted up her own shirt to persuade Weaving to appear nude. (Shaw's lawyer tells USA TODAY that Shaw had a bra on and didn't reveal her breasts, and that she was trying to show Weaving her own insecurities, not coerce her.)
More issues arose during another intimate scene for Season 2. THR reports Shaw, who was off set at the time, instructed a producer to turn on the monitors despite Weaving requesting a closed set while she was shooting the sex scene.
"I work daily to create an environment in which everyone should feel safe, and in which I can continue to grow as a leader and manager," Shaw continued in her statement to USA TODAY. "I am now and always have been open to hearing and addressing all concerns and issues that fall within my control."
Shaw plays Bridgette in "SMILF," alongside cast members Weaving, Rosie O'Donnell, Miguel Gomez and Connie Britton. The series is set to return to Showtime in January.

Not surprising it’s cancelled considering the #metoo drama around it.
I’m guessing it was cheap enough to produce that they could have easily run it for several more years if Frankie Shaw hadn’t have gotten weird with Samara Weaving.
