Panic (Amazon) -- Series from the writer of Before I Fall -- Premieres 5/28/21

PANIC is a new Amazon Prime Video one-hour drama series, written and created by Lauren Oliver (based on her bestselling novel). It takes place in a small Texas town, where every summer the graduating seniors compete in a series of challenges, winner takes all, which they believe is their one and only chance to escape their circumstances and make their lives better. But this year, the rules have changed — the pot of money is larger than ever and the game has become even more dangerous. The players will come face to face with their deepest, darkest fears and be forced to decide how much they are willing to risk in order to win.

Premieres next Friday. 10 episodes will be up.

Apparently there is a lot of interest in this. The trailer has 7.5M views.

This is now up on Amazon. Don’t know if there is much interest in this here. No reviews on RT yet.

Is this an import or did Amazon actually make this themselves?

It’s not an import, it was shot in Texas and is an Amazon studios co production.

Wow. Feel like there was no press or anything on this.

Re: Panic (Amazon) -- Series from the writer of Before I Fall -- Premieres 5/28/21

The 1st episode was interesting. Sets up that these kids are in a crappy small town in Texas with not a lot of prospects. This Panic is supposed to include some extremely dangerous acts for money. The young girl who is the lead needs money badly for college and is stuck with a loser Mom who stole her money. So she participates and the episode ends on a cliffhanger.

I'll watch a few more before I chime in again.

But yeah this series has gotten no press and barely any reviews. Seems like it just came out of nowhere. As I said in my 1st post, the trailer has a shit load of views. 7.6M. So obviously there is some kind of interest in this.

Not that this is anything new... but most of these actors look way to old to be playing high school. Jack Nicholson's kid looks like he could be playing someone's father.

Yeah he does. It was super uneven, and cliched often but I still sort of wound up liking it. Doubt it gets renewed. I never recognized Bonnie Bedellia in the entire run.

Panic was cancelled

I only saw the first episode. Guess there is no reason to continue.

I just think barely anyone knew this show existed. Amazon certainly didn't promote it very well. And no one was talking about it. I feel like a lot of these streaming shows just get dumped out the blue and they say here, watch it and now you gotta make it popular on social media. Most TV writers just don't seem to have the time to follow all these shows, so they barely get any write ups.

The season is pretty much self contained if you feel the need to finish…

Never heard of this, but being cancelled doesn't really leave me with the desire to watch it either.

I watched a crap ton of Amazon Prime earlier this summer and saw the trailer for Panic at the beginning of every episode of whatever I watched.

It was on my personalized landing page every time I visited Amazon.

I just had no interest in it.

I saw some ads outside of Amazon, but not many.

For me, it was advertised quite a bit.

… just not in my wheelhouse. I wouldn’t have watched it anyways.

No loss for me.
