Re: Vice Principals (HBO) -- The Final Season Thread -- Premieres 9/17/17

Good start to the final season

I'm going to go out of the box and say that either Gamby's ex's husband is the shooter or way out of the box and say Amanda. Amanda would be a shocker, but Gamby's been treating her like shit lately. The ex's husband seems logical considering how he's constantly in their lives and he would probably want Gamby out of the way.

I loved the ending when Gamby returned to form and wouldn't put up with anymore bullshit from the kids. at the butch lesbian Vice Principal getting teased.

at Gamby's return assembly with all of them singing Tears in Heaven.

^I hope you're wrong about Ray (Shea Whigham) because one of my favourite parts of this show is how nice and cool he is to Gamby (of course he still gets treated like a complete piece of shit but it's a dynamic you usually don't see on TV....if he was masking his feelings and did shoot him I'd feel it was kind of cheap).

Not the best episode ever but had some great moments. Really glad this is back.

Yeah, the end was the best with him going off.

I liked Gamby, after seeing Brown's tattoo, was equally upset both Russell and him were holding hands and and eating shit

Didn't realize they shot the entire 18 episodes up front. Pretty cool to have that amount of time and know where you're headed/ending.

Personally I think the shooter could've been anyone of the faculty members Gamby have clashed with over the course of season 1. (Abbott, Swift, Hayden, Milner, etc.) Also, Gale being the shooter would make much more sense than Ray, but I don't think it's either one of them.

He does it a lot, but it's actually pretty unique how Danny McBride almost always plays an asshole who is actually kinda likable. That's not easy to do, nor that common.

Yup, I can't see them going that route. He hasn't come across as anything but genuinely nice. It would be completely out of left field if he's the shooter.

Is it me or have they really changed the music and musical queues? It is like an 80's cop show now. Not saying it is a bad thing, just seems different than the first season.

Am I the only one that thinks the shooter is his friend from the school's cafeteria?

Never thought about that, and I guess it's possible, but it would be narratively cheap, as his reason for shooting him would have to be something we're not privy to yet and would have to be revealed later.

I'm thinking the same thing, although I'm not sure why he'd be pissed off.

I think this is the second time in the last year I've seen a show use The Payolas "Eyes of a Stranger" song. Can't remember what the other show was... maybe it was this same show in S1?

The story this season seems pretty slim. They're basically going to dedicate the season to trying to find out who shot Gamby? I'm already getting bored of it. I hope they just let us know very soon and have something else in store for stories.

I remember reading an interview before the premiere of the first season with McBride stating that (and I'm paraphrasing here) season 1 would be very comedic but season 2 would be more action oriented and mysterious in tone. I'm guessing the music is a part of that.

People aren't into this?

Last couple episodes were more sad, making Russel a bit more sympathetic, but at the same time, far more evil and treacherous.

One of, if not the, most entertaining things on right now. Gamby & the other teacher making fun of Snodgrass boyfriend after being roofee'd was great.

I consider the show mostly background viewing, but quite frankly if both Gamby and Russel were accidentally hit by a car and dragged on rough asphalt for a mile it would still be too nice a fate for these vile characters. I enjoy the show and a lot of the supporting cast make things work, but man...they are both nasty characters.

I think the show is absolutely fantastic, but this past episode was less 'funny' and more story progressing. I think they are doing a lot of setting up for a crazy finish.

Russel really does come off as an insecure person - which makes sense why he does the things he does.

So I guess Ms. Abbott was the person who shot Gamby?

His sisters ripping off his pants, even as a full grown adult, fucking killed me!

That would be my guess as well.

I've enjoyed the series. Gamby has a lot of the same personality traits as McBride's Kenny Powers character but it is still enjoyable.

When Gamby was doing his forensics thing with the yarn showing bullet paths and she came over to 'help' that was hilarious.

After this week's episode they're setting it up as such, but they're probably trying to make that obvious so it'll be someone else.

Not a likable character in the bunch and this show is fantastic. I think Ms. Abbott is the shooter too... she's nuts and there's no way she's going to live w/out Gamby.
