Re: Comic actor Jay Thomas is dead at 69 (Ray Donovan)
He was in 1 episode of Ray Donovan. Hardly associated with that show.
He was more of a sporadic sitcom actor. I recall he was a DJ here in Southern California in the 90s for a period of time. |

Another one of Mr. Holland's Opus bites the dust...

IMDB says he was in 4 episodes of Ray Donovan.
He's been doing radio on SiriusXM for a long time. |

Was he Eddie Lebeck in Cheers? He was the Bruins goalie that married Carla and was killed by a Zamboni on the show.

That's actually his most popular role. I couldn't even remember him on Ray Donovan. |

For some reason I thought he died like a year or two ago.
I think I remember him most from Love & War. |
Re: Comic actor Jay Thomas is dead at 69 (Ray Donovan)
You guys gotta remember him from Mork & Mindy also, right?

I really liked him on Cheers. Too bad he bad-mouthed Rhea Perlman in an interview and was promptly killed off the show (via tragic Zamboni accident)

Yeah his current gig was hosting a show on SiriusXM. I never listened, but if I recall, he was funny thew few times he was on the Stern show.

His Lone Ranger story on Letterman's annual Christmas show was always hilarious.

Damn. Didn't even realize he had cancer.
I've been listening to him on and off over the years since he started at SIRIUS, which even predated Howard's arrival. RIP |

I knew him from his TV work but his Lone Ranger story "They'll believe ME, citizen!" and throwing footballs with Dave trying to knock the meatball off the Christmas tree were some awesome fun moments for a lot of years. |
Re: Comic actor Jay Thomas is dead at 69 (Ray Donovan)
He had a somewhat prominent role in an 80s movie called "The Gig". Highly recommended, but unfortunately not on DVD (as far as I know). It was shown on Bravo a bit in the 90s. Stars Wayne Rogers as a part-time jazz musician whose band gets a gig at a Borscht Belt resort. Cleavon Little plays a hired hand bassist. Late in the movie, Jay Thomas is a big name entertainer who gets a last-minute booking at the resort, but the band isn't good enough to back him up.
Damn, everyone I mentioned in the movie is dead now... |
Re: Comic actor Jay Thomas is dead at 69 (Ray Donovan)
Zamboni is a helluva way to go.
Loved home on Cheers as well as Mr Holland's Opus. |
Re: Comic actor Jay Thomas is dead at 69 (Ray Donovan)
He was also the host of Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire? and he was on a sitcom with Susan Dey that lasted a season or two.
