Worst sitcoms of all time
Obviously all lists are subjective. Most of these are one and dones. Surprise to see 2 Broke Girls since it has so many seasons. Brings up a good point about a race to see how many references to body parts and sex can be jammed into an episode. Never liked it myself but it must have had some eyeballs to keep getting new seasons.

I'd love to check this out, but I'm not clicking through 33 slides. I hate when sites do that.
But I'll add my pick, the post-apocalyptic sitcoms Woops! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woops! |

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
I always wondered how the hell Mama's Family stayed on the air for so long and it seems that after being on NBC for 2 seasons, it became a first run syndicated show for the next 4 seasons. This show was horrible to say the least.

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
“Emily’s Reasons Why Not” is still made fun of around the Sony Pictures Television studios and the ABC network office. It's a running joke with production staff. How it's not #1 is beyond me.

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
The Paul Reiser show had lots of potential, it just didn't have time to grow.
I've stumbled onto 2 Broke Girls a couple times and it's fucking dreadful. It's amazing it lasted six seasons. Also, I figured this list would have more NBC "Must See TV" filler shows from the 90's - 00's. |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
I'm waiting for all those people who hate Big Bang Theory to chime in...

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
Somewhere in my house I have a trade paperback from the days when The Medved Brothers were writing their "50 Worst Films" series, and it covered the 50 worst TV shows of all time (I don't recall if it was all genres or just sitcoms). Obviously, the first list (I didn't read the others) misses a lot of bad Television from The Sixties and Seventies. The worst offenders can be found in direct-to-syndication sitcoms like "Small Wonder".
|
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
Anyone who grew up in the 80's will remember that 'Small Wonder' was one of the worst sitcoms of all-time.
|
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
The list would be more interesting if it were the worst sitcoms that lasted more than one season. If it lasted one season or less everyone knew it sucked. If it lasted longer it means people watched it enough to let it hang around.
And "Joey" wasn't that bad. It was mediocre and forgettable but if it didn't serve as a Friends follow up, it wouldn't have gotten railed as badly as it did. |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
I haven't seen a lot of those on the list, but I can remember some of those Direct-to-Syndication ones like the Yakov Smirnoff vehicle "What A Country."

Right now there are two Byron Allen-produced sitcoms that run at Saturday Night /Sunday morning at 3am (that's confidence!) called "First Family" and (I think) "Star of the Family". To be honest, most of these aren't in the "worst" category, just stunningly mediocre. To be a worst, you really need a bad idea poorly executed. |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
Secret Diary of Desmond Pfieffer was amazingly bad.

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
If the amount of people who complained about "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfieffer" actually ever watched "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfieffer", it never would have gone off the air ;)
"2 Broke Girls" was a total abomination before the Lord, mostly because it lasted so damn long. There are a ton of direct-to-syndication 80s sitcoms (that always seemed to be on Saturday afternoons) which were infinitely worse. Someone mentioned "Small Wonder". That was a shitcock. What was that one with the teenage girl whose dad was an alien but she had to manage the pitfalls of suburban high school life? Ahh I forget... |

It was "Out Of This World", which had 95 episodes, and starred Donna Pescow and Maureen Flannigan. Apparently it also starred Doug McClure and Burt Reynolds (who's listed for all 95 episodes, which seems like an error). I could have sworn Pescow was dead, but she's still out there working. Flannigan made an impression on some with "Teenage Bonnie and Klepto Clyde" where she tried to break out of the Child/Teen Star thing with some racier material. She's not credited past 2011. |

I agree with Joey getting raked only because it was a Friends spinoff. It was bad, but not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. About half on the list I've actually seen. 2 Broke Girls is pretty damn terrible. I actually watched it while on the exercise bike - I didn't want to waste a good show on the bike. It also helped me ride with more energy as the terrible comedy would get me somewhat angry and cause me to ride harder. An actual funny show would've slowed me down. |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
Yes Dear is kind of a stretch to be on that list. It wasn't that bad of a show. "Worst shows" don't last for six seasons.

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
I remember when I worked for the studios I was talking to the head painter of a new comedy series over at Paramount "The Tortellis" spin-off from Cheers.
He said it was so bad he put in for a new assignment before any filming even began. |

Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
What was the one where Tony Danza voiced a baby?
I guess you can't do a worst tv shows of all time anymore since more than half would be some form of reality show. |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
I love Mama's Family! I need to find that in syndication.
I hated that NBC show, "Whitney" |
Re: Worst sitcoms of all time
After watching 5 minutes of it before leaving the room, my vote goes to Downward Dog. Beyond horrible.
