Re: Game of Thrones (S7E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Dragonstone" -- 7/16/17

The reasoning behind it makes the otherwise gratuitous cameo more endearing

I was really hoping we'd see a 'they live' type fight sequence where at the end they finally force the hound to look into the fire.

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Dragonstone" -- 7/16/17

Surely before departing the Riverlands after slaughtering the Frey house Arya will take a minute to free her uncle Edmure from his imprisonment mere yards from where she stands triumphant. He is her mother's brother after all, and was the groom of the Red Wedding which is the event that brought her vengeance upon House Frey in the first place.

Nope. I guess the North can't be expected to remember everything.

If she knew Edmure was there, she probably assumed he had been killed along with everyone else, as did the rest of us for two or three seasons.

I figured he was killed by Jack Randall.

Good opener. Didn't realize that was Sheeran until I saw his name in the credits. Got a kick out of Sam's montage

That guide fails to mention that Jon Snow is actually part Targaryen royalty.

Isn't he the actual true king by blood right?

So I'm guessing this is all going to end with...

Spoiler:
An Avengers-scale battle with all the houses joining together to fight the dead (Chitauri) and then eventually Cersei (Loki) but then turn into a Civil War when House Stark (Team Stark) fights House Targaryen (Team Cap, Enhanced folks) while being manipulated by Little Finger (Zemo).

Jon Snow is technically still a bastard, since Prince Rhaegar Targaryen was married to someone else when he raped and impregnated Lyanna Stark. He's just a Targaryen bastard instead of a Stark bastard.

Daenerys Targaryen is the daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen, the last ruling Targaryen. So she arguably has more "blood right" to the throne than the bastard offspring of her brother.

Targaryen's used to get married more than once. Rhaegar very well could have married Lyanna Stark.

There's no evidence of that in the books or show so far, and Lyanna Stark was an unwilling participant.

It ultimately doesn't matter too much, since "might makes right," and Jon Snow has an army behind him. If Bran reveals the truth and people believe it, Snow could parlay being the "Targaryen people know/trust" to the throne.

It potentially wouldn't even stop a marriage between Snow and Daenerys.

Also, Daenerys's "blood right" to the throne only has weight for those that feel House Targaryen is still the rightful heir to the throne.

We don't know that. She might have wanted to be with Rhaegar instead of Robert. She was being forced into a marriage with Robert Baratheon by her family, and she could have known what a shithead he was. Rhaegar was beloved by almost everyone, most of the negative views of him came from Robert and his circle.

Well, it's characterized as an abduction by most sources I can find. I haven't read the books, but apparently in them Robert Baratheon claims Rhaegar raped Lyanna "hundreds of times". in the TV series, Sansa states that Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna.

The big question seems to be what Lyanna Stark's feelings on the matter were. It's presumed by others that she was unwilling, but we never see her explicitly state so:

There doesn't appear to be evidence of a marriage, even in secret, though, and if the marriage was in secret, then Jon Snow is still a bastard until that marriage is revealed.

If Urine can capture Tyrion and bring him back to Cersei, why doesn't he just kill Daenyres in the process?

The kidnapping and rape was the basis of Robert's Rebellion. No one would have talked about her running away willingly, but it is the popular theory for book readers.

Apparently the hairstyle that Sansa was wearing while talking to know-nothing Snow was the same one Cersei used to sport before she was shame shaved.

Lots of folks on Twitter all atwitter about that detail
Yep - while speaking with Jon, she mentioned learning the braiding technique from Cersei.

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Dragonstone" -- 7/16/17

Is Cersei incapable of having more children? When Jaime says that they can't have a dynasty without heirs (despite Cersei's notion of having their "own dynasty"...their being the only Lannisters left "that count"), why can't they get busy producing some more little Lannisters? The High Sept is gone, so the queen can change any rules about intermarriage with relatives (besides, the rumor mills pretty much knew about the parentage of the previous three kids).

Is Jaime now The Hand? Or would that be redundant?

Depending upon who's left standing at the end and who pairs up with whom, D & D can throw everybody a really confusing curveball by pairing Arya & Yara. The books wouldn't be much better since it would still be Arya & Asha. Still wish they'd have done something different with the name change.

Not a fan of the telegraphed opening. As soon as the wine uncorked, it was obvious that something was up.

Or they can just put Greyworm on the Iron Throne as a compromise candidate and let Zombie Mountain run the palace gift shop.

Just one more child whose parents weren't thinking on his Name Day.

I don't think this is a spoiler as it was mentioned previously? but just in case
Spoiler:
Cersei had her fortune read as a young girl by a woman named Maggy the Frog. She predicted that Cersei would be Queen and marry a King. She predicted Cersei would have 3 children while her husband would have many many children. And Cersei would outlive all her children. After all her children started dying, she probably believed the fortune.

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Dragonstone" -- 7/16/17

A good ep. , but not great. I had some issues with a couple of scenes. 1) I know that Samwell is having to pay his dues, but that doesn't mean you have to turn it into a comedic montage. He's been built as a character who has been able to accomplish great things despite being overweight and such. Don't play him for laughs now 2) I would have been okay if they had just let Sheeran sit next to Arya and not really say anything. Having him sing was basically saying "Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Ed Sheeran!" I hope we get Arya wasting his ass in the coming weeks. (Bad ass opening with her BTW.)
