No surprises there. I suspect The Handmaid's Tale, Veep and Anthony Hopkins are gonna have a great night.

WTF Leslie Jones got nominated?

I'm happy for Ann Dowd and Carrie Coon's nominations.

Was "The Leftovers" considered a Limited Series? I was expecting more love for the show, but was really surprised there to only find one nomination : Carrie Coon in the Limited Series Actress category for The Leftovers instead of Fargo. I expected she would be in the Best Drama Actress for Leftovers and Best Limited Series Actress for Fargo.

The Americans didn't get nominated for Best Drama??? But the overrated Stranger Things and House of Cards was nominated? I have never seen This Is Us, so I can't comment on it.

Meh, this last season of The Americans was pretty forgettable.

She was nominated for Fargo, I think whoever did that initial list just typed in what they knew her from.

That's what I said. She has to be the worst performer ever on SNL.

It was a pretty disappointing season for the show outside of the acting. Personally, as a HUGE fan of The Americans, I am 100% okay with Rhys and Russell getting nominated and with Stranger Things getting the Dramatic Series nod over The Americans.

I totally agree. Her nomination also baffles me because she doesn't do impersonations or original characters. Vanessa Bayer also got nominated and that is a total surprise. Vanessa had her weak moments on SNL, but she is much better than Jones. Vanessa at least did impersonations and her Jennifer Aniston impersonation was very good. I also liked her kid characters that appeared on Weekend Update. Jones doesn't do any original characters on WU and this past season she constantly flubbed her lines.

Re: 2017 Emmy nominations

Jones,Baldwin and Bayer are nommed because SNL had it's highest ratings in decades and the show become let's do a sketch about everything Trump does last season.

Michael McKean not getting a nom for Best Supporting Actor is bullshit.

I would have thought Stranger Things (not underrated, IMO) would have fell under the Limited Series category. There were only eight episodes.

A long time ago, this would have been called a Mini-Series.

I would agree with you except the Emmys and Golden Globes rarely vote on how great each season in that context and more the show in general. House of Cards has been going downhill for years yet it gets nominated.

My point is they didn't nominate The Americans the first 3 seasons and finally nominated last season, so I figured it would get another nomination this year to make up for the early seasons snubs.

And I agree that Michael McKean should have been nominated for BCS. The guy will always be Lenny from Laverne & Shirley and was able to shed that comedic image and make me realize how great an actor he is.

The youngest daughter (with the glasses) on Black-ish deserved a nomination. She's funnier than most of the other nominees.

Jones is not even in the same profession as Bayer, let alone a comparable performer. Then again Bayer wasn't 'victimized' for being terrible in a terrible movie, so that evens things out.

Game of Thrones (S6) wasn't eligible?

i think Handmaid cleans up based on hype. i was intrigued very much by first ep. and will continue when i get a chance...

Re: 2017 Emmy nominations

These are the ones I have the strongest opinions on and I'll be rooting for:

Bod Odenkirk for best actor, drama

Evan Rachel Wood for actress, drama (Robin Wright's my second choice)

Better Call Saul for Best Drama (though I'd also be happy if Stranger Things won)

I'm on the fence between Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Thandie Newton (Westworld) for best supporting actress, drama

Sad to see no love for The Leftovers, though their last episode or two aired after the deadline. I don't know what that means about their eligibility to submit either this year or next year.

It was for this year. The eligibility rules dictate that over half the season airs during the eligibility period. Most famously The Sopranos finale Made in America aired in early June but won Emmys that September. It's also the reason why Twin Peaks is not eligible even though it premiered in May.

^Thanks! I was looking on the Emmy site for their eligibility rules but couldn't find them.

I loved Stranger Things, and Purser was fine and all, but WTF!?

Guest actress:
Shannon Purser as Barb Holland
Stranger Things

Re: 2017 Emmy nominations

This is how I see it (not for the all categories):

Comedy Series: “Atlanta” (FX) or “Veep” (HBO)
Drama Series: “The Handmaid’s Tale” (Hulu)
Drama Actress Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)
Drama Actor: Anthony Hopkins (“Westworld”)
Comedy Actor: Aziz Ansari (“Master of None”) of Donald Glover (“Atlanta”)
Comedy Actress: Tracee Ellis-Ross (“black-ish”)
Limited Series: “Big Little Lies” (HBO)
Limited Series Actor: Ewan McGregor (“Fargo”)
Limited Series Actress: Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”) or Reese Witherspoon (“Big Little Lies”)
Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Samira Wiley (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) or Uzo Aduba (“Orange Is the New Black”)
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live”)
Variety Talk Series: “Late Late Show With James Corden” (CBS)
Variety Sketch Series: “Saturday Night Live” (NBC)

Re: 2017 Emmy nominations

A few observations:

- Agree to leave The Americans out
- Michael McKean should have gotten the supporting nod for BCS over Banks
- Ewan McGregor shouldn't have (though I can see why he was included)
- Too bad no love for The Leftovers
- Would have replaced Modern Family w/something else
