I liked the reference to Spyglass licensing Mosaic, which they actually did of course. Spyglass eventually licensed it to Microsoft to become Internet Explorer. I had an interview at Spyglass before they entered the web browser market.

I'm team Gordon/Haley. I want to see them stick it to Donna!

Yeah, they turned Donna into an uber-bitch.

Donna has been choosing business over family for a while now, and now she literally has to choose one over the other.

It's interesting how the show has evolved, as Cameron was the most interesting character in Season 1. Now she is the least interesting character as it is really Donna's show now.

I thought Gordon had a brain tumor. I must have missed the resolution somewhere along the way? Was he cured?

They dismissed it in basically one line of dialogue. It's never wise giving a central television character a disease of that nature unless you know the show isn't coming back.

Didn't they seem to be alluding to Gordon possibly having tumor issues again in the first episode? I really wouldn't be surprised if they killed him off at the end.

Yes. There's no way his medical problems aren't going to be a big issue in this final season. I also expect him to die before the end.

Cameron's character is pretty one note. Worked for a while, but then it gets boring.

I really liked how Boz evolved and he was one of my favorite characters, but he has been pretty marginalized this season. It makes sense from a story point of view, but I miss his impact.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- The search begins on Aug 19 2017

Finally caught up on the first five episodes the other night. I'm happy with the season so far, but I agree that Donna's been really... mean.
I agree that this show needs more Boz. And another season or two, at that.

I'm rooting for Team Comet, but they're so fucked... that's been the whole theme of the show every season. They make progress, then shit goes wrong.

Watched all six episodes yesterday - still love this show but agree that a few characters have felt a bit off. That being said, the writing is still great and while I was initially put off by the idea of Gordon's daughter working with them, they've handled it really well and make it a highlight (as well as the awesome Anna Chlumsky). Donna annoys the fuck out of me and she used to be my favourite - I'm hoping for some kind of redemption for the character soon. Will be sad when this is over.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- The search begins on Aug 19 2017

Watched episode 6 last night. I really love this show and hate that this is the last season. I agree that Donna seems uncharacteristically... a bitch. Even in Season 3, I thought Donna was mean, but fair. She seems to have lost that, but it looks like she sees starting to see the flaw in herself.
I loved the scene where Joe was trying to get Gordon to understand Haley a bit more, and Gordon was just too angry to hear what Joe was getting at; I liked that Joe didn't just flat-out tell him what he knew, because it's definitely not his place to do so.

As always, I loved the music in the episode too.

Damn, I'm gonna miss this show.

Enjoyed the latest episode.

This season all the characters seem so unhappy. It's like they're all further ahead than they were career-wise than previous seasons, but are much less happier. It's almost as if the characters are asking "this is it?"... in fact, Joe kinda asked that question and Gordon kind of answered.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- The search begins on Aug 19 2017

Very good episode as it was one of the few times it explored each characters dilemma/arc equally without one of them dominating the episode.

I'm not a computer guy so alot of this stuff goes over my head (so I enjoy your guys interpretation's here). But isn't the thesis of show now more about how the characters will eventually all be swallowed up by the internet, but their vision/ideas during the rise really contributed to where we are at today?

RIP Gordon

For a bit there I thought Joe was going to be on the path to creating a smartphone. Still might happen if there is a time jump.

That was brutal, but well done.

I just hope they don't do the ghost trope. Too many shows keep the actor on and show them as a grief ghost

I'm guessing we get a whole bunch of Gordon flashbacks next week. Lead actors have already been paid, so showrunners hate dropping them for entire episodes.

I was basically waiting for Gordon to bite it. For a while during this episode I thought they were going to go for irony and electrocute him when he was fixing the AC or something else not related to his brain tumour thingy.

It was well done. Didn't get too dramatic from his point of view and we didn't see it actually happen.

Gordon was my favourite character on the show. By far the nicest character.

I thought his final vision was very moving, brought me to tears a bit.

I didn’t see a reason given for his death, did I miss it?

I forget the technical term, but basically his brain's been on the fritz for the last several years.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- The search begins on Aug 19 2017

I never took the show that way. Rather, I took it as telling multiple technology history stories with our known characters used to thinly tie them together. These characters are amalgamations.

Given that I lived (closely) through so many of they stories they cover, I can't help but smile with acknowledgement on how right they get the tone of what various things were like. We're closer to today now, so certainly someone besides me had to smile at the memory of those infernal AOL disks/discs.

The whole search engine story has been one I've watched with a bit of dread because we already know the internet quickly gets way too big (and changes too quickly) for anyone (or group of someones) to realistically index effectively. The good thing about the show is despite all the failures, our crew have made a lot of money and always been able to move on to the next thing. In reality, a lot of people just get crushed, and that's that. Just like Blockbuster was so ubiquitous when the fledgling Netflix took its first steps, and look at things now.

Fantastic episode.

This is one great series that I have a feeling people will eventually find on Netflix years later. Glad AMC kept it around.

That death really resonated with me, especially in the age of tv where there is a character death almost every week and you almost become numb to it.
