Basically the origin of crack as split between the cartels, CIA and black neighborhoods.
Mix those together and it sums it up. I think it looks solid and will definitely give it a shot.

Re: Snowfall on FX
FX has a intentionally off-putting style with their promos (which seems like an oxymoron), since they choose to give you an overall feel, I guess, than tell you an actual storyline or who the characters are. I've read about "Snowfall"'s (multiple) storylines but you don't get that at all from the promos. This was also true of "Legion".

Singleton directed the original pilot. They went back and redid it. He is no longer the credited director. Which pretty much makes me less interested in the show, though I will watch.

Anyone watch this, how was it?
I've been waiting to see it but the reviews seem lukewarm.

Edit: I also noticed a similarity with the movie Dope. Both with the movie poster and the plot for Franklin

I recorded it and will watch it when I get a chance.
I looked it up and it looks like the original Pilot was shot back in 2015, however one of the original lead actors quit the show, so FX decided to revamp it. They hired one of the Producers of Justified (Dave Andron) as showrunner and he helped revamp it along with bringing in a new director for the new Pilot.
Singleton is still EP of the show. Sounds like he's still quite involved with it.

Wow, didn't realize the troubling production this show had. I have it on the DVR and will likely get to it over the weekend.

I just saw the 80 minute Pilot last week and liked it. Very dark and gritty show, but I like it. Hopefully I'll have some time to power through and get caught up.

I finally made the time to start powering through some more episodes yesterday.
and wow, I was hooked. I watched episodes 2-5 and I wanted to continue, but had other things to do. 8 have aired so far.
This show is pretty awesome so far. And wow, I'm surprised by the lack of talk about it here almost 2 months into it airing. This is like hard R rated gritty HBO content. F bombs in literally every other sentence, along with some intense violence. I thought this was the type of gritty and dark show this forum loves. Don't be discouraged by the lack of heavy buzz and lack of glowing critical reviews. You be the judge. I guess this is just flying under the radar for most.
One episode featured a closed door man on man rape in order to acquire information about some missing money. That was pretty whacked for a basic cable show.
Right now there appears to be 3 main plots going.
1) Franklin -- Young black kid from the hood who is trying to make a quick buck selling drugs and is in way over his head with some of the people he ends up dealing with.
2) "El Oso" -- Lucha Libre wrestler who becomes involved in a local drug ring.
3) Terry -- CIA guy who's deep undercover trying to infiltrate the drugs from their origins.
If this is still sitting on your DVRs unwatched, get going man.
I'm going to try to get caught up by tonight.

I need to get back into this... too much quality TV to try and get thru right now. This had a lot of promise in the first two episodes we watched.

He is actually working with Contra rebels, selling cole to buy guns from Iran and give to the contras. This part is based in reality. The CIA was responsible for the crack epidemic. I keep waiting to see if we will get a Freeway Rick character. I would recommend watching Coacaine Cowboys, great documentary covering this.

Watched episodes 2-9 today. This is fantastic. Each episode was better than the one before. Definitely a hard R. I know after 10pm cable has leeway, but damn they're not playing around.

Season 2 premieres July 19th
Can't wait. Season 1 was awesome.
If you still have this sitting on your DVRs unwatched from last summer. Shame on you. Get going man.
Unfortunately, this is not available to stream legally yet for those who completely missed out or didn't have time to watch. Hopefully Hulu will get the rights since they get most FX shows.

You can currently watch Season 1 on FXNOW. And you most definitely should check it out.
The second season will premiere on Thursday, July 19 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX. Snowfall is executive produced by Singleton, Amadio, Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Michael London and Trevor Engelson. Andron serves as showrunner. Snowfall continues its riveting story about the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. Season two follows our ensemble of characters as they intersect and overlap within the mosaic of Los Angeles as we enter 1984, all of them working toward their ultimate goals of money, power and influence, including: Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), young street entrepreneur beginning to experience the perils of success; Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), a CIA operative who finds that his off-book drug-funded operation may be vulnerable from unexpected sources, both personal and professional; and Gustavo "El Oso" Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and Lucia Villanueva (Emily Rios), the drug running couple who discover the potency of crack and try to exploit it, despite the new dangers involved.
