My point was that I would rather them recast the show then try to finish it without Frank.

I also think that recasting the show would be a horrible idea. I just don't think there are any good ideas no matter what they come up with Robin Wright.

Who knows...maybe they will surprise me.

Re: House of Cards (Netflix) -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- premieres 5/30/17

The best thing that could happen for House of Cards would be if it was bought from Netflix, and produced by another company like Netflix, but offered for free due to advertising.

Let's say Satan itself owned a company with "fuck you" kind of money.

This company buys the rights to the show, and then offers absolutely insane money for all the professionals working on the show to come back for one more season....... with Kevin Spacey still in it.

The show is then streamed just like Netflix, except it is free due to advertising.

It would be insane to watch.....and would be watched by an insane amount of people.

I know. I was just subtly teasing you about using 'then' instead of 'than' which changed what you were saying.

I would much rather Spacey was forced to behave on set, and finish the series as it was meant to be, but obviously that's not going to happen.

I'm glad we'll get some sort of resolution. i just hope they do it justice.

I really feel like the S5 season finale works as a SERIES finale. And I agree, it should just be over. This season seems like a favor to Wright for all she probably had to put up with.

Zero interest for me. I don't believe I'll bother watching this final season without Kevin Spacey. His real life demise is one thing, show quality and story without his character is another.

Same. They should have just ended it. I'm guessing viewership will be down by a lot.

I'm out. In hindsight season 5 jumped the shark about 6 times and I have no interest in the show without Spacey.

I'll watch. I thought Robin Wright's character had become more compelling than Spacey's last season anyway.

Honestly, I don't think the should could (or could have) survived on either one character or the other. It was the interaction between them that kept it entertaining. Claire by herself with the staff will be boring, IMO.

I'm in just to see how they're going to handle this... plus I want closure - I'm not going to watch 4 seasons only to bail on a final season with only 8 episodes.

With that said, however they explain Frank's absence will be lame because whatever happens will be done off-screen.

Really unfortunate this is coming back the way it is. Last season's finale could have functioned as a series finale. What Claire does with "her turn" didn't necessarily need to be shown under these circumstances.

I'll rely on the thread here to gauge reactions and decide whether it's worth watching the last season.

Is Spacey out of this final season completely? Or is he in at least a few scenes/episodes? I'm assuming they kill him off - it's literally the only way to not have his character be a presence on the show.

Couldn't they say Claire decided not to pardon Frank, and he was convicted and sent to jail (and that's why we won't see him anymore)? Every now and then, she could mention that she visited him offscreen, or she could divorce him to save her image.

"We're just getting started"

... she says in the teaser for the final shortened season.

New teaser. It is a spoiler, though obvious...

I hope when the series set for this season comes out, that they talk about how much (or little) they needed to change this whole season due to the Spacey allegations.

I think they scrapped what they had planned (and the two episodes they shot already I believe) and started over.

I wouldn't mind a comparison between what was earlier written and scrapped to what the season became. I believe Claire's push was already designed.
