Twin Peaks (S1E01/E02) -- "The Return - Parts 1 & 2" -- 5/21/17
Directed entirely by David Lynch, the new SHOWTIME 18-part limited event series TWIN PEAKS picks up 25 years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town were stunned when their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. TWIN PEAKS will debut with a two-part premiere on Sunday, May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT across all SHOWTIME platforms. Immediately following the premiere, SHOWTIME subscribers will have access to the third and fourth parts exclusively on SHOWTIME streaming and On Demand platforms, in advance of their linear airing on SHOWTIME on May 28. One-hour parts will air in subsequent weeks, until the series moves to 8 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, August 6. The series' finale will air on Sunday, Sept. 3 from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back parts. TWIN PEAKS is written and executive produced by series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost, and is executive produced by Sabrina S. Sutherland.

Strange that the premiere episodes haven't been made available for critics in advance. I can't remember that ever happening for a show premiere (maybe later seasons of Game of Thrones?). Hell even super-secretive GoT showed some tiny clips in advance.
Also, not sure if this is Emmy material anyway but wondering if these first four episodes will be considered eligible for 2017 Emmys, as the Eligibility period goes 6/1/16-5/31/17, and whether it will compete as a Dramatic Series (opposite Westworld, Better Call Saul, The Americans) or a Limited Series (opposite Big Little Lies, The Night Of, Feud: Bette and Joan, Fargo S3). It literally could qualify in either even after the recent rules change.

Watching new Twin Peaks is more exciting than any movie release this year. I'm hyped.

Watched Fire Walk With Me and the last two TV episodes this week.
I really can't imagine how this is going to turn out. Is it going to re-connect with the old show, or will Lynch decide none of that matters? Will it even be a proper story, or just a bunch of weird shit like he used to shoot for his website?
I'm very intrigued to see this, but also have my expectations in check. After all, as I remember, this particular brand of gum lost its flavour after about twelve weeks, and by the time it was discontinued, most chewers had already spit it out.

Watching the last tv ep now.
Just so much nonsene with the little guy and all the backwords stuff.
The bank blows up then immediatly to the diner sand the demon voice and then to the red curtains and everything is going backwards.
Nonsense
I'm sure the new show will be great though.
BTW Laura tells agent Kyle that next time he sees it it will be 25 years later
Not quite as he did see her again in the red room but this new show is 26 years later for what it's worth.

Is the original series streaming on some service (having never seen) and what episode should I watch prior (which ep. is the Laura Palmer killer revealed?) or series finale? Just curious is all in the new incarnation and I've mostly been a fan of Lynch...

Netflix.
All of them.
But, if you're gonna cheat watch the pilot and eps. 1-10, then skip to the last two of S2. And watch FWWM.

I just watched the first episode. WTF was that? It wasn't much Twin Peaks. Felt more like Fargo actually (or maybe The Night Of).
At least we got some Madeline Zima nudity -- a first-episode staple of Showtime since Californication.

Conveniently all episodes and FWWM also stream on Showtime now.
Funny story : My daughter has been working her way through the series slowly. She had seven episodes left this morning. I told her I wanted to watch this reprise, having been a fan of the original series.
She plowed through those seven episodes back-to-back (the last one with me). We finished just before 5 PM PT. Then she was frustrated by the Cliffhanger ending! I told her "I've waited twenty-six years to find out what happened and you have to wait like an hour. That has to be some sort of a record!"

I really enjoyed this. Lynch's films are very hit-and-miss, but this has me intrigued and creeped out and excited.
It's pretty amazing seeing these characters again. I've been thinking a lot about the passage of time this evening--what's gone on in my life the last twenty-five years. It really speaks to how well these characters were portrayed the first time that seeing them again doesn't feel like a cheap re-boot. I really sense that they've lived through twenty-five years of experience in the time the show has been away.
Although I was a little thrown seeing Jacque Renault behind James at the bar in the last scene. Leland killed him, or is there a third Renault brother in the original show I've forgotten about?

I am going to have to wait and watch the new American Gods tomorrow because I don't think my mind can take it.

The credits listed him as Jean-Michel I think. Presumably he's the fourth Renault brother along with Jacques, Bernard and Jean. I doubt it was anything more than an Easter egg.

That was great. There's so much going on there and it's all over the place. No way to interpret some of the stuff in The Black Lodge, but I try not to decipher Lynch all that much because sometimes there is no meaning.
It'll be interesting to see how it all ties together. A little disappointed we didn't get to see some of the older characters yet, like Audrey or Bobby, but I'm sure they'll be back soon.

I'm sold on the new series! It has touchstones to Lynch's other work (besides Twin Peaks) but also feels fresh.
Episodes 3 and 4 are available on Showtime Anytime right now, by the way.

I'm sort of surprised to see the positive reaction here. About ten minutes in, I was watching and thought that most people are really going to fucking hate it. A lot of people will have never seen the original, or if they did, they wanted more of season one, which twentyAfirst century David Lynch was never going to provide.
In most ways, it was about what I expected, but I was sort of stunned how little of it took place in Twin Peaks. Moving forward, I really hope we get more of the eponymous town. The South Dakota stuff feels like it could have been trimmed down, particularly the murder investigation, which seemed to drag on forever.
Really like BOB-as-Cooper. Delightfully creepy.
Disappointed by quite a few of the performances. Did Lynch forget how to direct actors. Many of the guest stars and a few of the regulars seemed confused or stoned.
Despite a few bumps on tne road, I really want to see where this goes. (And Madeline Zima has a great bottom.)

For the life of me, I can't understand why they wanted to make 18 hour-long episodes. I have a feeling things are going to drag along a lot.

This was exactly what I expected. 100% pure Lynch, darker than the original run, and full of mystery.
Fuck mainstream tastes, Showtime gave Lynch a shit-ton of money and he made what he always does: ART.
