Yet another creative reinvention of the show ... Loved it!

Did Jessica Walters' voice sound a bit off or was it just how she was playing the new incarnation?

Is anybody else playing the Archer PI app? I think I nailed everything for the week, but I'm not sure.

Just finished watching it, and I loved it, too! Lots of laughs, as usual.

I figured, as soon as they started zooming in on Archer, that they were going to go the dream route. It definitely works.

A real shame it's only an 8 episode season, but at least we already know there'll be 2 more.

I am confused with the Archer app. Are you looking for things in real life or are they hidden in the show?

I'm also watching. I enjoyed it, though this episode seemed to bypass a lot of traditional Archer humor in favor of establishing this new world.

I was surprised at the more serious tone but it does make sense. It's really interesting to see this show take a chance like this, especially after the last genre-bending exercise (Archer Vice) was so poorly executed.

Of course, at this point these characters have such a dedicated fan base they could be thrown into literally any situation and it would probably work.

There were plenty of traditional Archer call-backs dropped in. They just didn't beat the viewer up with them.

Re: The App -- yes and yes ... and the clues/hints are not very explicit. It is intended to be VERY free-form. I'll admit I had to cheat and look up a few things to get going. What are you stuck on?

I do not like the direction of the show right now. The old "raunchy" Archer humor is what made Archer, Archer. Very few laughs here.

I'm not turning on it just yet, but I can see your point. I like the setting and direction, but the execution is falling a bit flat.

Totally baffled by the app this week ...

With the short season I usually pile up all the Archer eps at once.
I did, however, watch ep01 of Dreamland because my curiosity was piqued.

The "cock/tip" gag at the bar was comedy gold...

Starting to feel more like traditional Archer ... Plenty of obscure history lessons and a nuttier than a muffin Cheryl/Carol/Charlotte.

Got the app this week without having to search for help.

Damn, I didn't realize this had already started a few weeks ago. I'm assuming my Tivo season pass didn't pick it up because they changed the name to Archer: Dreamland... grrr.

There was also a channel change, which might have been a factor. It went from regular FX to FXX

Pretty funny episode, tonight.

I haven't been keeping up each week, but I just finished catching up.

Overall this as been a different season. It isn't necessarily a "bad" season, just ... Different. Last couple of episodes were better and holy crap the imagery around Trexler. Dark shit man, dark shit.

The app game seems to have gotten easier now that I have gotten the rhythm of it.

This season went by quickly. I enjoyed the setting, and I am glad they are trying something new, but I didn't find it as funny as previous seasons. Any idea what the theme for next season will be?

It was a shortened season, but I agree. It wasn't as funny as usual. Strange ending, too.

The stuff with Barry and the Dogs might one of the most disturbing thing Ive ever seen. This season left me feeling very empty, these cliff hanger endings really need to go

I suppose two things are pretty telling: I just now watched the finale and this thread is hovering under 20 posts for the season.

I wish I had ended where I started, but this season was just "meh". It was a great concept, but it just flat out lacked the humor and soul that is Archer. The ending was just downright bizarre.

I hate to say it, but if the creators are getting this bored, maybe it is time to hang it up. Let me live with the masterpiece seasons that are out there.

Did any one else play the app? I was looking forward to what it might add to my viewing experience, but even it got very rote quickly and left me with very little sense of achievement.

The creators already stated an end date. Yeah, this one was a pretty low and slow burn and felt like a tired effort, but hey, you can always stop watching whenever.

Re: Archer: Dreamland (FXX) -- Season 8 Thread -- premieres 4/5/17

I don't think I would call it a tired effort ... it was more of an effort to do something different but it fell flat. If you want to do different, do different. Don't throw in the series' running gags and call back jokes but make them serious.

It was like Prometheus and Alien: Covenant ... it kept shades of the familiar to try to capitalize on the name brand but then altered the familiar just to be different. All that does is piss fans off.

It certainly isn't a season you can catch on random repeat viewings, but I'm wondering if one marathon session would improve it. Or was it like the app -- just a bunch of busy work?

Yes, I can quit watching at any point. I have done so with several shows (Agents of SHIELD, Fear the Walking Dead). However I L-O-V-E Archer, so I won't just bail. I will ride it out. I will always continue to view certain seasons episodes over and over again while leaving others behind.
