I think she’s trying to get back out there since she was essentially blackballed

But she has appeared in several movies and projects over the years though she might not have the greatest acting skills but got lucky with that Oscar win.

I remember a long-ago story that Mira was a fan of the show and/or enamored with the concept and asked her representation to get her on DWTS back in its early days, when she had a bigger career. Her people were horrified and told her it was a bad idea and talked her out of it.

Re: Dancing With The Stars

I am guessing Matt Walsh,Jamie Lynn Spears,Mira Sorvino are entirely cases of people only taking part due to the strike.Typical actors/actresses on DWTS are people who are famous for being on a show 10,20,30 +etc years ago but not really busy in recent years. Matt Walsh alone has like 9 movie/tv credits from 2022/2023,Jamie Lynnn Spears is a regular on a Netflix, show and Mira Sorvino is a current lead of a Starz series and the lead of a movie that grossed over 100 million dollars in 2023.

It's too bad they can't promote what they're doing on this show because I had no idea any of these people had current projects (other than the Zoey 101 movie).

Re: Dancing With The Stars

I thought Mira Sorvino would feel the pressure or being labeled a scab from SAG AFTRA for doing this show?

It never hurts any actor to get more attention, to raise their profile, and showcasing some other talents (all of this as long as its positive attention). I know little to nothing about Jamie Lynn Spears, other than her sister is Britney. I didn't know there was a "Sweet Magnolias" show and she's been on it for 3 seasons according to the IMDB. Now I'll know her and recognize her, for whatever that's worth. Same with Matt Walsh, -he's a face I've seen, but I didn't know him by name; that will probably change. I used to be a fan of Mira Sorvino, but I'm one of those people that had to go to IMDB to see what Starz series you're talking about or the movie you're referring to. "Sound of Freedom", -though it's now a hit, - was a movie that was made 5 years ago and was sitting on the shelf until the producers bought it back from Disney This will bring her back to mind for many people and acquaint them with her current projects. Positive recognizability gets actors more jobs.

I would assume its nature as a game/competition show show taked it out of the "acting" realm.

I actually had the same question about John Cena and Dwayne Johnson returning to WWE. Though not subject to the unions, their performances in WWE are acting.

Re: Dancing With The Stars

There are lots of things that can be considered "acting" that SAG doesn't cover and shouldn't argue over, though. Wrestling is one of them, they never really accepted wrestlers into SAG despite some overtures earlier, so I can't see why they'd have any say into whether actors go back to it, as long as they're not promoting other things.

Reality shows are another, and I believe it's the Writers Guild that has a problem with Dancing with the Stars, not the actors, right?

Correct. Being an actor and being on the show isn't an issue. Any actor on this shouldn't be (and I believe isn't) having any clips from previous work shown in any package segments during episodes.

The show is a WGA struck show and they have an issue with it continuing.

Re: Dancing With The Stars

I can see why the WGA would have a issue with this show airing. Someone has to write script for the hosts to read off teleprompter. They aren't ad-libbing. So it's a scab writer.

Even though this show has 500+ staff members, you're still feeding the studios new content when it's a struck show.

Re: Dancing With The Stars

Matt Walsh has just pulled out until the WGA strike is over, according to TVLine.

Walsh’s full statement below:
I am taking a pause from Dancing with the Stars until an agreement is made with the WGA. I was excited to join the show and did so under the impression that it was not a WGA show and fell under a different agreement. This morning when I was informed by my union, the WGA, that it is considered struck work I walked out of my rehearsal. I have been and will always stand with my union members of the WGA, SAG and DGA. Beyond our union artists, I am sensitive to the many people impacted by the strike and I hope for a speedy and fair resolution, and to one day work again with all the wonderful people I met at DWTS who tolerated my dancing.
