Vikings (History) -- Season 5 Thread -- Premieres 11/29/17
Season five begins with Ivar the Boneless asserting his leadership over the Great Heathen Army, while Lagertha reigns as Queen of Kattegat. Ivar’s murder of his brother Sigurd sets the stage for vicious battles to come as Ragnar’s sons plot their next moves after avenging their father’s death. Bjorn follows his destiny into the Mediterranean Sea and Floki who is suffering from the loss of his wife Helga, takes to the seas submitting himself to the will of the Gods. This season is full of startling alliances and unbelievable betrayals as the Vikings fight to rule the world.
20 episode 5th season premiered a couple of nights ago.
It was a 2 hour premiere. It will be a split season airing into 2018.
History also picked this up for a 20 episode 6th season back in September.

Awesome news about being picked up for a sixth season. I love this show, and one thing it can never be accused of is dragging it's feet when it comes to story-telling. Really enjoyed the season premier. Can't wait to see where it goes from here, notwithstanding my amateur-ish knowledge of medieval European history being a bit of a spoiler when it comes to major plot developments.
Thanks for the thread. This show deserves far more attention and credit than it receives from the general television audience.

Heahmund is the first character on the show that seems to be a realistic threat to Ivar and company.
Guessing Floki landed on Iceland.

Every time the Vikings referred to York as York was kind of weird. They should have been saying Jorvik. Otherwise, good start. Ivar is bad ass.

Even the locals at the time would have called it Eoforwic, not York, but I can see where the archaic place names might get confusing for viewers.

not really digging the show this season. Igar the boneless is a pretty annoying character and having just done a quick look at wiki it seems he has a long story arc. The stupid thing is he is described alternately as a giant (9' tall), very flexible with bendy bones or something like double jointed in the historical accounts. The kid that plays him in the series is getting more and more on my nerves and after 3 episodes I'm about to tap out of the series.

Any body know why yesterday's e[isode (E04) isn't unlocked online. It's always been available the next day without a provider signin. Is this a change in policy?

At this point the only part of the story that's of any interest is Bjorn's Mediterranean Cruise Vacation. The stuff in Norway is just more of the same and watching Ivar do the electric worm across England is pretty dull as well.

Bjorn in the Mediterranean is definitely the best part of the show.

I think it's better than it was with Ragnar and Ecbert. The dividing of the storyline's doesn't bog the show down.

It’s amazing the Saxons were conquered by their livestock
Can’t wait for a rehash of Ragnar and Athelstan Ivar and the Bishop.
The show needs more Bjorn

I like this season more than the recent ones. The Bishop should be dead though, I hope they don't go down the same Ragnar storyline.
And while the brother Vs brother storyline was already done, this one is a lot cleaner and doesn't seem like it will go back and forth multiple times.
And as someone mentioned earlier this shown needs more Bjorn. I think that may pick up but I wonder if he survives the season.

So much for Bjorn’s adventures in the Mediterranean. Guess they had to get him back to Kattegat with the war coming.

I kept wondering who Floki's buddy Ketill reminded me of and tonight I finally figured it out:

The extended and split seasons have really hurt this show. The plot is really stretched out and it seems like not much has happened. I thought the beginning of the season was good but they really dragged out the brother Vs brother conflict. Hopefully they resolve that in the mid season finale.
The Floki storyline seems almost like filler at this point. Also the Bishop was an interesting and formidable character early on, now the character seems wasted.
