THE EXPANSE "Safe" - 10/9c *Season 2 Premiere - Two Back-to-Back Episodes with Limited Commercials*

Miller (Thomas Jane), Holden (Steven Strait) and the crew of the Roci deal with the aftermath of their narrow escape from Eros. We meet Martian Marine Gunnery Sergeant Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) and her platoon when the "Cuban Missile Crisis" between Earth and Mars heats up.

13 episode 2nd season

Returns after being off the air for about 1 year. Last episode that aired was in Feb of last year.

Tonight's premiere is 2 hours (2 episodes back to back)

If you need to catch up on season 1, it's available on Amazon Prime.

I recall season 1 got a very lukewarm response here. Some people here thought it was boring.

Personally, I can't wait. I think this is easily the best sci-fi since Battlestar Galactica went off the air. I do understand how people could have said the initial episodes were on the slow side but thought it was important to establishing the universe. Very psyched for this.

Should I be watching this? My sci-fi friends tell me it's great, best since BSG.
Considring I liked BSG and just watched it about two years ago, maybe this would be worth it. I hate space soaps where nothing happens like Star Trek, but if this is like BSG a heck of a lot happens.

Stuff happens but every episode is not action packed. A lot of mystery and suspense. It is pretty good but takes a few episodes to get rolling

I remember loving this show. But it's been so long. Hope they have a comprehensive recap to start.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

The second half of the premiere was excellent. I have been waiting for a show like this for a long time and watched the first season twice. Television seems to be a bit afraid of hard sci-fi and usually mixes in too much fantasy or cowboy for my tastes. I want science in my science fiction, even if it is pseudo science.

Great series.

Solid premiere. Thomas Jane's haircut still bothers me immensely for some reason though.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

I think they found the right tone for the series, as this was a very strong opener to Season 2. Last season was played so understated, so muted, so subtle, and so mumbled, that I wanted to grab the television and scream, "GO BOLD!! THIS IS AN EPIC STORY!! FUCKING WAKE UP!!!"

The cast, direction, and editing seemed a LOT stronger and more vigorous with the opener. I understand Season 1 was a lot of setup, but most of the season seemed unwieldy and fumbling. They got better as the season went on. I'm glad to see where the show seems to be now. I hope it holds up.

I'm still not entirely on board with the casting for both Miller and Holden -- definitely different from what was envisioned in the books -- but they're starting to grow on me. groin

Love the show but every scene Holden is in I still have to remind myself that he's not Jon Snow.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

In the books Holden is pretty much the ultimate Boy Scout, but not in a way that sacrifices good character development. On the show he's portrayed as darker and much more conflicted. The contrast between Lawful Good Holden and Chaotic Neutral Miller in the books provided plenty of great character moments. Here on the show they seem a lot more similar in nature.

I suppose I shouldn't be comparing the books to the show, but it seems like a notable departure to me.

The actress playing Bobby Draper is SMOKIN' hot. Holy moley.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

Good start to pickup where season 1 left off.

I thought the earth content was actually better than last year. Maybe because it's less ambiguous and there are competing factions that we know about.

Is it me, or did the pace pick up? I felt like travel time was cut to expedite the story.

I'm not digging the new Martian marine. Too gun ho.

I need a map or something, because I'm already struggling to keep all these season 1 locations straight!

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

I saved up season one on my DVR and never really got around to watching it.

I think I might collect all of season two on my DVR, too, and then binge all 23 hours.

What I've seen of this show, I didn't really feel it, and thought I should have liked what I saw better than I did. It seems like something that should be on HBO, with nudity and a constant stream of the f-word.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

I finished the first book of the series this summer and was surprised how closely the TV show mirrors the book (there are a few difference, but it's pretty close).

Second season is off to a good start, although I'm sort of regretting having it spoiled by the book now.

The space combat scene with the projectiles piercing through the ship's bridge was pretty cool.

I haven't read the books. Miller does seem very complex. One minute I figure he's really reeling and considering going on a trip through the stars. Then you figure out it's a strategic ploy so he can use the ship to tbone an asteroid?!

Creepy DJ jams coming off the asteroid.

I'm wondering if Julie Mao is somehow still alive, or at least her essence.

I do kinda like the show, despite not really liking any of the characters or actors on it.

I thought she was ugly as fuck and I wanted to punch her in her stupid mopey face every time she was on screen. Terrible character/actress.

Re: The Expanse (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 2/1/17

I am just about done with episode 5 (the latest episode), and I have grown to love this show. It really helps that even the slowest episode a couple weeks back feels like it moved at a breakneck pace compared to last season.

Finished the episode and I am eager to finish up the season
