She seemed to be always staring straight ahead (at her cue cards) in all of her sketches, I noticed. Anyone else concur?

Me and my wife both cracked up the second Sturgill opened his mouth. I was hoping it was a bad sketch or something. That is seriously unlistenable music.
But he was really into that second song with that long guitar jam and solo lol.

Vanessa Bayer and McKinnon were in a lot of sketches which is good.

They are the glue of the show and my favorites.

At least there was less Leslie Jones in this show.

Of course it's been all over the news for the past month, but that doesn't mean the average person is going to get any of the Rogue One jokes. That's the difference between Star Wars 1977 and Rogue One, is that EVERY moviegoer saw Star Wars, compared to only Star Wars fans saw Rogue One.

You could say Death Star, The Force, Princess Leia Hair buns, and everyone would get the joke back in 1977. You bring out the character played by Forrest Whitaker, and nobody outside of SW fans know who the hell he is. Heck, I bet half of the SW fans don't even know the characters name is. Very few movies crack pop culture for the masses (Jaws, Star Wars, Titanic).

What's funny is I mentioned to some of my SW friends (who have seen Rogue One) that Felicity Jones was hosting SNL, and they said, "Who?" I had to tell them it was the actress who played Jyn Erso, and then they knew what I was talking about.

For the record, Rogue One just passed Finding Dory and is now the biggest moneymaker of 2016 and still going. Not a niche fanboy film. Like it or not, Felicity Jones is literally the lead star of the biggest movie of 2016.

The opening of the Golden Globes--a La La Land parody--went over a lot more heads than SW references.

That distinction is nonsensical. Not every moviegoer in 1977 saw Star Wars, and there was no such thing as a Star Wars fan outside of population of people who saw the movie.

In 2017, you can be a Star Wars fan and not see Rogue One, but presumably the people who saw RO are SW fans.

I don't think you understand how jokes work. Did you watch the Carrie Fisher rerun? Even in 1978 they knew that repeating the name Obi-Wan Kenobi was just a reference and not a joke.
If you saw RO, you knew who Kenan was costumed as, and that was all that was necessary for the premise of the sketch.
If you want to talk about lost references leading to failed punchlines, how about when Fey name-dropped some NYC store.

What's funny is I mentioned to some of my SW friends (who have seen Rogue One) that Felicity Jones was hosting SNL, and they said, "Who?"
So you've got some dumb-ass friends.

Hardly a compliment.

Speaking of the Carrie Fisher rerun: I noticed she dropped a Jabba the Hutt reference. I know he was mentioned in the original film (before he got added in the SEs), but did people really know who he was? I was born in '80, so I don't know what it was like when the movie originally came out.

No, they are just not losers like us who post on stupid message boards everyday and don't need to eat up every SW milk and cranny. Seriously, were arguing about an episode of a TV show that's been on for 40 years. They would say we need to get a life.

They are big SW fans who grew up with the movies and enjoyed Rogue One. Some (not all) don't know Felicity Jones name because they never heard of her before Rogue One. To them, she's the girl whose dad worked for the Empire.

Eileen (Not Carrie) Fisher is not "some NYC store."

There are stores in 23 states. I'm a man who has no interest in women's clothing and I know what it is. I laughed at the joke.
