RIP Ron Glass (Barney Miller/Firefly)

damn.

Ron Glass, who shot to fame with his role on the television series Barney Miller, has sadly died at the age of 71.

The actor died on Friday (November 25) after a battle with various illnesses, his rep told TMZ.

Barney Miller ran for eight seasons, from 1974 until 1982, and Ron received an Emmy nomination for his work on the final season.

Some of Ron‘s other memorable roles include ones on The New Odd Couple, an episode of Friends as Ross’ divorce lawyer Russell, Family Matters, Firefly, Serenity, and most recently, a guest spot on CSI in 2014.

Re: RIP Ron Glass (Barney Miller/Firefly)

He was always one of my favorite characters on Barney Miller. Considering he was the equivalent of the professor and Maryann on Firefly he made the most out of the part.

RIP Book

I recently read that it was a myth that celebrities die in three's. In this case though it held true. Robert Vaughn, Florence Henderson and Ron Glass in the period of a few weeks.

Aw, man. He was so great as Harris in Barney Miller - one of TV's great characters! For him to then create such a different but awesome character in Serenity really speaks to his talent as an actor. Only 71? Way too young.

Re: RIP Ron Glass (Barney Miller/Firefly)

Man, that sucks. I loved Ron Glass. Barney Miller is one of my favorite shows and I always loved his performances there, and then I became a huge fan of Firefly and loved him on that show, too.

Hell, I even watched The New Odd Couple for a few episodes when it was first on. He was good as Felix. That show just wasn't quite as well written as it should have been.

And 71 - damn, that's not old. Not anymore.

He will be missed.

I didn't realize that Harris was Shepherd Book. I enjoyed them both.

I occasionally watch Barney Miller reruns on TV, and it's still very good. What a great cast.

Re: RIP Ron Glass (Barney Miller/Firefly)

Sad to hear of his passing. I enjoyed his work on Barney Miller and Firefly too. A Hoosier native like Florence Henderson.
Glass remained active in community efforts in Los Angeles and his hometown of Evansville. He chaired the board of the Al Wooten, Jr. Heritage Center. Based in Los Angeles, the organization is dedicated to empowering the growth of young people in the community in crisis.

Ron Glass.
