9 episode 5th season
In case you've been ignoring it or living under a rock, the show returns tomorrow night after being off the air for 8 years.
This is not a "Reboot" or "New series" like 24. This is season 5. Pretty much the entire original cast has returned.

Ironically, this is airing the same night as Dom Purcell and Wentworth Miller's other show on The CW DC's Legends of Tomorrow. However, that show is done for the season after tomorrow night.
THE FATE OF MICHAEL SCOFIELD IS UNKNOWN ON THE ALL-NEW EVENT SERIES PREMIERE OF "PRISON BREAK" TUESDAY, APRIL 4, ON FOX
It's been seven years since MICHAEL SCOFIELD (Wentworth Miller) was presumed dead, but when clues suggest that he might still be alive, LINCOLN BURROWS (Dominic Purcell) reunites with SARA TANCREDI (Sarah Wayne Callies) to help track down the truth. The path leads Lincoln to Yemen, as SUCRE (Amaury Nolasco), T-BAG (Robert Knepper) and C-NOTE (Rockmond Dunbar) are pulled back into the action to engineer the series' biggest escape ever in the all-new "Ogygia" event series premiere episode of PRISON BREAK airing Tuesday, April 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), on FOX. (PB-501) (TV-14 D, L, V)
Cast: Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield, Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows, Sarah Wayne Callies as Sara Tancredi, Mark Feuerstein as Jacob Ness, Amaury Nolasco as Sucre, Robert Knepper as T-Bag, Rockmond Dunbar as C-Note, Paul Adelstein as Paul Kellerman, Augustus Prew as Whip, Rick Yune as Ja, Inbar Lavi as Sheba

Finally watched The Final Break on BD over the weekend to lead into this. Probably will not be much of a link to that, but just in case I wanted to be caught up. When I was setting up my DVR I noticed that they have that available On Demand, but just split up as two episodes.
After seeing both main actors go way over the top on Flash/Legends is was great seeing them not going that far on PB. Those two are good together and I'm hoping this season will be as good as S1 and S2.

Oh, I'm going to watch regardless of the reviews. Having the original cast is the selling point.
Even with 24 sucking, I'll finish it. The only revival I recall bailing on was Heroes. That was absolutely terrible.

The overall concept was great but it just got terrible in it's original format.

I loved the first season, and bailed out midway thru S2.
will this make sense to me? it is just a retcon job? how did the original series end for these guys?

We bailed on that as well. Prison Break plots were always unbelievable, like 24. It will either be fun to watch, or not. Plus this will reportedly be the real end of the larger story now.

Quick recap of seasons 1-4
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/22AbykPtZos" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The creator of Prison Break said that this miniseries is a continuation of the original series, but there is enough elements that it works as a standalone story.
He said they have no plans to continue the series beyond this. It will wrap up.

In for the season pass at Amazon. I watched Seasons 1-4 and The Final Break a few months ago and loved it.

I hope Gretchen makes a cameo. She was bad ass! I can't believe I still remember the names of the characters!

This did nothing for me. I won't be bothering with the rest of the season, but my wife will continue watching it.
For what it's worth, I thought seasons one and two were fantastic, but three, four, and The Final Break were pretty bad. I wasn't expecting much from this at all, but it still failed to entertain me. I'll probably check back in again when it's over to see if it improved, though.

A few things...
They retconned Michael's "death date" on the tombstone to 5 years later than it originally was.
It looks like they are ignoring the T-Bag episode of Breakout Kings, since after those events I don't see T-Bag ever being released from prison.
They don't even mention how Lincoln or Sarah are even allowed to be in the US since in the Final Break they broke Sarah out of prison and fled the country. You'd think they'd still be wanted for that. Final Break scenes are shown, so one would assume that's still part of the continuity unless they're just picking and choosing what they wanted and ret-conning the rest.
Otherwise felt like an episode of Prison Break and looking forward to the rest.

Well, that was interesting. I will say this it was much more entertaining than any episode of 24: Legacy this season.
There were definitely some continuity errors from the original show. Michael's date of death as Kevin mentioned was pushed forward 5 years.
Also, Michael was buried in Panama when the series ended.
at Michael being an infamous Isis terrorist.
It was good to see all the key cast members. Their chemistry was what made the original series work despite the ludicrous plots.
I'm guessing no one noticed this, but the fake Michael photos from the internet were actually Prison Break creator Paul T. Scheuring.
C-Note was pretty badass in that garage fight. "That's how the American prison system does it bitches"

Wow. The location of the grave is a huge error to me. I didn't notice the date of death, but if that's that case, is it really a big deal to just have said that 12 years have passed?

Haven't watched it yet, but my perspective is it's not a good sign the creator has no intentions of continuing the story further beyond this miniseries. I know the reviews haven't been great and this has been lacking some buzz, but if this was a ratings hit and garnered critical praise, he may have a different position. Unfortunately, neither of which are expected.
That said, it is sort of cool to have Prison Break and 24 on the air at the same time again. Takes me back...

I enjoyed it. One thing about Prison Break is you can't overthink it because there are so many plot holes in the show, so you just have to go with it. Did feel like classic Prison Break though and I'm interested in what the angle with Michael is.
Only real disappointment for me was no Mahone, and I had to stop watching it for a bit since it was hard for me to divorce Lincoln and Michael from Captain Cold and Heatwave.
