End of the line for Duck Dynasty
The show just started its 11th season and now that will be its last.

The A&E reality series about a Louisiana family that dominates duck hunting season is set to say goodbye after its eleventh season, the family announced in a farewell video.
“After five years we’ve decided … as a family for this to be the final chapter of the Duck Dynasty series,” Jase Robertson said in the video uploaded to the show’s official
Korie Robertson chimed in: “This is going to be the best season yet and you might see us on a special or two.”
The announcement came along with the premiere of the show’s eleventh season, which aired on Wednesday. The series will run through Jan. 18 with a small break before seven final episodes set to air between March 1 and April 12, according to Entertainment Weekly. And ET Online reports that A&E will air holiday specials after the final season.

I really enjoyed the first 3-4 seasons when the show was still fresh. But like most reality shows, after a few years, the people get more comfortable in front of the cameras and start acting. And the show felt less natural.
It was especially evident with Uncle Si who started out as some goofy oddball, and turned into an insane caricature. And the producers egged him on, by putting him in unrealistic situations that encouraged him to act as crazy as possible.

Another sign they sold out was them putting out a video game, though I don't know how old that is.

I'm surprised nobody's done a porno called Dick Dynasty. I think there was a "This Ain't Duck Dynasty" or something like that.

But Si descended into not only caricature but a bad one at that. I tell you when this show lost its mojo: the episode where he drove his truck into Willie's while Willie was parked, then claimed an injury to get a scooter. I was on a DD group on FB at the time and the reaction to that was absolute fury and disgust. I knew that would doom the show far more than Phil's impolitic comments to GQ ever would, and viewership fell off like a rock.
Maybe Sadie can get a show. She is one cute lil redneck.

Bingo. The early episodes were a riot, especially the one where Willie and Jase were after the honey bee nest, while Godwin and Norman were dealing with a skunk while trying to get the women down from a cherry picker. I loved that episode.

That cherry picker episode was hilarious. And the scooter episode was where it all went downhill.
I know a lot of people blamed the GQ article on the drop in ratings. But the truth is that the show had peaked in early Season 4 and the ratings were dropping months before the article came out.
Sadie's awesome. I'd watch a show with her. But I think she's too normal. If she was a screwed-up mess, they'd give her a show in a second.

It seems like the very same sort of trend plaguing/destroying comic book series of late, what with new and so very badly unnecessary+unneeded renumbering/relaunches presently taking place every few months now. Meaning that I assume whatever network airs Duck Dynasty expects more eyeballs & higher Nielsen's whensoever an episode gets heralded as the jaw dropping season finale, or the long+eagerly awaited new season's premiere - this, being as opposed to merely some "mid-season finale" or "just episode 15 after five weeks off of reruns".

I've also never watched the show but I thought I saw some creepy clip of one of them hunting with Ted Cruz and praising him as the best candidate during the primaries. Like most Republicans, I guess it was more about defeating Hillary anyway, so I'm sure they jumped on Trump train.

Here's a good video clip with Willie and Phil:

Add me to the "this was still on?" camp. I thought it ended a few years ago -- about the time Walmart was plastered with their merchandise. It was enough to make George Lucas proud.
Never saw it, never interested me. Congrats to them for building an empire though.

Naw I know a lot of people that shift back and forth between country and prep. Usually when golf is involved. They just grew their beards out, it's trendy now.
They actually don't pull the country part off all that great, they look like characters from a Wes Anderson movie.

Willie said in interviews that in the early days, they felt they needed to be clean cut and wear suits for business meetings with big companies. And once they were established, they could do what they wanted.
