There's an Official Podcast for this show that started for season 3 that's very good. The eps are 30 or so minutes so it flies by. It has The Show Creator, Casting Directors, Research Person, Actors etc..

I think 5 seasons is perfect for a cable/streaming drama, as so many shows drag into the 7th, 8th, 9th season and just gets stale and they start to recycle plot points. I do think the show's biggest challenge will be when they introduce Princess Diana. She is a very polarizing figure that everyone has followed back to the royal wedding in 1981, so there will be a lot of preconceived notions on how she is portrayed. For example, my mom loved her because she was essentially the Jackie Kennedy of that era, whereas I have other family members who thought she was Meghan Markle on steroids and felt she was bigger than the crown. Those people are going to go into Season 4 with those 30 year biased set in stone.

Hi all, catching up on this, just watched Bubbikins. Was wondering if that documentary was actually buried per the Queen's wishes? Has it ever been seen again?

From the article:
The documentary did air again in 1972 on the BBC but this was the last time it was shown and viewers are unable to see it now.
According to the Radio Times, by the 1990s the film could only be watched at the BBC with permission from Buckingham Palace.

We hit a roadblock with S3 and didn’t make it all the way through. Maybe it was the break, but the last few episodes have been strong. They’re focusing more on the family drama, although the Heath PM is rather a bore. I think we have 1 to go before we hit S4.
I think the biggest challenge S3 had was introducing new actors/actresses in old roles. Somebody would pop up in screen and we’d be like, “who’s that?!” Only to find out it was an established character.

I guess I don't know Thatcher's voice that well, but we were not impressed at first.
And funny thing, we accidentally started with the second episode of the new season and just went with it. We noticed the ep# when we went to the next episode and noticed it was 3, so we had to go back and rewatch the first one and it made a little more sense.
And not to be weird, but I commented to my wife that the actress for Diana is actually prettier than the real one (but it was hard to watch the scenes with the papparazi chasing her.

On the Official Podcast, the actress that plays Diana said that part of taking the role was the fact that her mom is the spitting image of the real Diana. She said that aroudn the time Diana died her mother was regularly mistaken for her and people would seriously freak out.

As much as I love Anderson's portrayal, she is oddly seems to be playing Thatcher as much older and frail. One must remember that Thatcher probably doesn't have many fans working on "The Crown". Anyway, as seen here Thatcher's voice was strong and she was very animated.

We’re only 2 episodes into season 4, but this whole Charles and Diana relationship is coming off as weird and creepy.

But seriously, up till now this has all been "history" for me, so I was a little detached.
But now, I remember Princess Di. I remember her being in the news. I remember her death. And I'm starting to feel uneasy when watching, especially seeing her suffer with

I finished the season and I thought it was good. Something about the last ep was "meh" to me. I think it's because Charles and Diane are interesting but Thatcher had more of my interest overall. But I get that most viewers are probably focused on C&D. So many thing sin this series come off as uncomfortable because we know how they turned out, or are happening now.

I didn't pay much attention to the Royals when I was a teen/early twentysomething in the 80s, but I always viewed Diana as shy and naive, not vapid and childish like she was portrayed here.
I love how Charles got to fuck around with Camilla while waiting to catch Diana cheating on him. What an asshole.

My understanding is that scholars of the noble family are quite upset over the portrayals of Charles and Diana, with the general consensus being that, in reality, Diana was quite abusive towards Charles during their marriage, and that the vapid and childish portrayal of her was on the mark.

I must not have had the same awareness or understanding of their relationship
as I thought. I was under the general impression she was the victim of the royal lifestyle. I think largely in part because how much she seemed to be adored by the public (I’m sure some didn’t) and the press.
Likewise, I knew Charles had a history with Camilla, but didn’t realize they had some
degree of active exchanges during the marriage. I’m sure we’ll get more details
in the coming episodes.

In the podcast they point out the Diana was not a stranger to the lifestyle as many have imagined. She comes from a distinguished family so it's not quite like she was a total commoner thrown to the Royal wolves.

The aristocratic Spencer family, of which Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a member, are one of the many noble British families whose members have gone on to become knights, kings, earls and barons. ... Unlike the royal family, The Windsors, the Spencer family tend to keep themselves out of the lime light.

Yeah, she was referred to as Lady from the start, and it's pretty well known that the royals don't marry commoners, they have to have some sort of stature before they're even considered.
But I'd wager being allowed to live in a flat with four other girls where she had a little more freedom might have made the transition more difficult.
