As another day of fantasy plays out in Westworld - a vast, remote park where guests pay top dollar to share wild-west adventures with android "hosts" - top programmer Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) alerts park founder Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) about incidents of aberrant behavior cropping up in some recently re-coded hosts. Meanwhile, in the Westworld town of Sweetwater, a rancher's daughter named Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) encounters a gunslinger named Teddy (James Marsden) in the street - but their predictable narrative is upended by the appearance of a ruthless Man in Black (Ed Harris) and, later, by a supporting host's unscripted encounter with an artifact of the outside world.

The question I must ask is: is this a better TV adaptation than Beyond Westworld in the early 80s?

Heard something interesting about the Ed Harris character. From the trailer/previews it appears he may be the robot gunslinger character. I heard he's human. He's a sadistic homicidal psycho who frequents Westworld to work off his homicidal urges by killing robots.

Looking forward to this one. Hopefully HBO doesn't screw it over like they did their last Western.

^ This isn't exactly a Western.

This will be on HBONow, correct? I just checked and they don't have the series listed as of yet .

Westworld is science-fiction.

Hopefully this will be as successful as Abrams' Undercovers, Alcatraz, Almost Human, Revolution and Believe.

Just watched it and thought it was amazing. In for the season.

GoldenJCJ will be sorely disappointed in this one. But I was surprised how good and fairly creepy it was. Also surprising that Ed Harris' character is a visitor, and a psychotic one at that. Flip side to Yul Brinner's character in the movie. I'm very interested in seeing where they're going to take this.

Also, very interesting use of Paint It Black in this episode.

Use of "modern" music was interesting. They also had "Black Hole Sun", and I guess some others.

It's just one episode but I don't think it can be a new "Game of Thrones" for HBO.

Is this supposed to be a possible ongoing series? I thought it was just 10 episodes then done.

I haven't heard anything in terms of it being a limited run.

Is it the same as the movie where it isn't just a western setting?

I actually hope not because I really want to see Medieval World and Roman World. But if there are plans to make this a few seasons, I can see them not showing those places until later. But I'm hoping this will be limited. I'm not sure how far they can stretch this premise. And I do t see people like Hopkins and Harris being in multiple seasons.

There's no mention of other "worlds" in the pilot.

Perfect ending. Count me in for ten.

I guess I should have been more clear. Obviously I know that Westworld isn't strictly a western. But western sets, props, clothing, etc. lend to the "western" genre.

Interesting stuff. Reminds me a bit of Tad Williams' Otherland novels.

Supposedly that was what the production shutdown was about.

Yeah, I really was intrigued with the pilot. Not sure where they are headed, but if I stuck through Vinyl and True Detective Season 2, I'm certain to ride this train for nine more episodes this year. Thought Ed Harris, James Mardsen and Rachel Evan Wood were all great. Hope they give the amazing Jeffery Wright some more to do in upcoming episodes.
Also loved how they tricked you with Mardsen's character at the beginning. Very smart narrative trick there.

I thought it was a very solid start. Sucked me in right away. Seems like it has some very intricate plotting. Very high production value. Kudos to HBO for spending the money on another ambitious series.

Evan Rachel Wood was awesome as Dolores Played the android with all it's mixed emotions very well.

I initially thought that Marsden (Teddy) was a guest of Westworld and not an android participant in the scenario.

Yeah some interesting stuff with the Groundhog Day scenario and Dolores' "Father" changing to a darker personality and hinting about the potential uprising.

This is something that I would love to see a behind the scenes featurette to learn more about the episode and some details that I may have missed. Hopefully HBO Go posts that like they did for Game of Thrones.

This was pretty fucking dope. I'm hooked. Shit, I totally forgot that Jonathan Nolan was pretty much the point man on everything. Co-written, produced, and directed by. I think it's also his directional debut, too.
