Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16
The first half of the season was solid, until the hokey second half with a lame villain. Hoping for something better this time.
Truthfully, I'd rather they got rid of the individual character shows for Luke and Danny and start HFH. But I know it's basically all heading into Defenders 2.
DD should be the only individual show.

I'll give it a go, even though Season 1 was the only Netflix Marvel show that I've given up on halfway through.

There’s an ambitious new power player in Harlem for Luke Cage season 2.
The acclaimed Marvel drama has cast actress Annabella Sciorra in a key role, EW has learned exclusively. Sciorra will play Rosalie Carbone, “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.”

Nice. I've always liked Sciorra, and wondered why she "disappeared" before learning that it was due to Weinstein's bullshit.

Wait, the villain he's facing is named Bushmaster?

i really liked the first half of season 1, and this looks like it has potential (with the celebrity aspect). But 2 invulnerable dudes punching each other typically isn't very entertaining. I'd love to see the villains get clever (poison, drowning, etc) instead of just trying to get stronger or use alien bullets.

OK, late to yet another thread...
I am finally watching all of the Marvel/Netflix shows (post DD S2), and I'm enjoying them a lot.
Luke Cage is my 2nd favorite of these shows (behind Daredevil).
Mike Colter is fantastic as Luke Cage. That was perfect casting. He really is Luke Cage from the page to the screen. Mahershala Ali is excellent as Cottonmouth. Yeah, the show dropped a notch once they killed him off, but he was excellent.
Simone Missick is very good as Misty Knight, but it seems that they aren't following the comic with her character all that much. In the comic, she loses an arm, gains a bionic one, becomes a PI, and becomes Danny Rand's girlfriend. You'd think that in this day and age Marvel would have jumped at the chance for that relationship on screen, but they went with Danny and Colleen Wing instead. The TV Misty Knight is a good detective who can see things that others don't, but she gets too emotional and loses control too often. That's not the Misty of the comics. Yeah, changes happen, but this was a change for the worse. Still, she's a good character and Missick does a very good job with the role.
Alfre Woodard is very good as well, so she's a definite asset to the show.
I loved Shades. I get him. He's smarter than he looks. He's a schemer, but he's fairly quiet about it. He's a manipulator. And he's got a real sense of cool about him. I love the character and I love Theo Rossi's performances.
Diamondback? Meh. He's a villain. He's unstable, mentally, and is a psychopath. Oh, and he's bitterly jealous of his half brother. Yes, he's a walking cliche. The weak link of the show.
But, overall, I love the show. I really like the writing, I love the direction, the acting, and the atmosphere. They nailed Luke Cage as a character (this is early on in his crimefighting career, so it tracks fairly well).
After season 1 of all the shows I grade them...
Daredevil - A
Jessica Jones - B+
Luke Cage - A-
Iron Fist - B-
