Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

Can't say I hate it but it wasn't great. Villains are corny.
Spoiler:
Cottonmouth never had the upper hand against Luke. Always get his parties crashed and before you know it, he is dead. Mariah the chickenshit villain. Diamondback is flatout cheesy. Shade speak like Damain Lewis
I hope Iron Fist is much better than Luke Cage. Can't wait to see how the Chinatown scenes look like on screen since it's filmed on the same block as my kids' school.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

Six episodes in and I'm enjoying this more than Jessica Jones. The plot is a bit predictable but the supporting cast is better and I like the setting and style. JJ had a better main character and villain but it also had a contrived plot and probably should have only been 8 episodes at the most. Both of these shows are still a notch below the two seasons of Daredevil.

He feels like a different character than he was on Jessica Jones. Almost like this series is a prequel to JJ, but it's not, so it's like he's regressed.

I'm up to Episode 8 and still not blown away. It's ok but a bit boring, characters a bit bland, Misty is getting annoying, the guy playing Luke cage is decent but lacks that bit of charisma. Cannot stand the Mariah counselwomen character.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

I've watched this over the last 5 days and while I was a bit bored at times, I loved the use of music, the locations, and the actors were very good (at least Pop, Cottonmouth, Meriah, Shades, and Claire) but hated the liberal-over-peppering of the n-word (but I was expecting it).

My main problem with this show came in episode 9:
Spoiler:
Doesn't he have two entry wounds with painful sharpnel? Why did they remove the shoulder pieces and not the abdomen pieces? Um, hello.
All I have to say is "Oh… sweet Christmas."

Daredevil S1 - A-
Jessica Jones S1 - B+
Daredevil S2 - B
Luke Cage S1 - B

I thought it was the opposite, as I remember having the same feeling.
Spoiler:
I thought they took out the shrapnel from his gut but not the shoulder.

I thought what Goldberg74 said! It was a bit confusing. My wife agrees with fumanstan.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

The first half of the series was fantastic;
Spoiler:
sadly that ended as soon as Cottenmouth did. Diamondback made no sense at all. In the first half of the series he was a shadowy all-business scary guy. But as soon as he showed up he repeated every mistake he didn't allow others to make.

Harlem was a character in the first half, but became a caricature of itself in the second. The last episode ending montage aimed for a Wire-like profound ending but came off as something out of a Hallmark movie.

The best grade I can give the last half is a B. The creator should have taken over the finale and not just do the first two episodes and at least have the pay-off work.

Shouldn't there be spoilers on these posts for a bit since it just went live a couple days ago?

Either way, it was lousy storytelling and editing.

6/10 Weakest Marvel product since the MCU was created

I think Cage will be better in the Defenders

finally finished it last night, loved it. the ending was a bit cheesy, but all this comic book stuff in inherently cheesy, so not a big deal.

This is so much better than Agents of Shield or Agent Carter. It's not even close.

Fixed. Because it's a "all at once" show I figured people wouldn't start reading the thread until they had watched it like I did. But I fixed it regardless, thanks.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

I liked parts of Agents of Shield and Agent Carter better then Luke Cage. All three of them had issues, in my opinion. Cage certainly has much better production values, but in terms of excitement there was nothing in Cage that I found particularly amazing whereas there were moments in the other shows that got me much more excited to see what would happen next.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

Well... I started out loving the show, but even then I was a bit disappointed after his great start in the Jessica Jones series. By the last 3 or 4 episodes it just felt like a total slog, especially the final episode. That fight scene with Diamondback was laughably bad. It sucks because I have a feeling they won't bother giving this a second season with a better plot and writers. Hopefully Iron Fist is a good deal better than this was.

It's a real shame too, because I absolutely loved the entire tone and setting of this one, but it took a backseat to how boring of a story it was.

Re: Marvel's Luke Cage (Netflix) -- Season 1 Thread -- 9/30/16

I just finished this. I agree it went on for too long and falls apart somewhat towards the end. I think Jessica Jones went on too long too. Luke seemed like a different character from what was set up in JJ.
