Episode was a lot of fun. Dutch is back!

I should point out that this episode was pretty much taken verbatim from the book - at least 90% of it. Also, the prologue indicates that more states and countries around the world have been infected. Looks like they're ramping the infection rate up a bit.

I'm not sure what the Master's goal is, other than suicide, since after everybody is turned lack of blood supplies does him in. Even the blood farms he's setting up won't last long.

Why do they have to put him in a silver-lined lead box? Can't they just smash the crimson worm? kek.

Which book? I don't recall any of this, but I haven't read the third book yet.

Well, they're going to have to paraphrase a lot of it going forward. This past week's episode did so with the opening intro.

Seems strange to have narrative paraphrasing happening now when they seemingly spent a lot of time in S2 not advancing the story much at all.

I wan under the impression that we were getting two more seasons instead of one.

Where you replying to the post about it ending with S4?

I also thought this was supposed to go 5 seasons.

I was replying to yours but in terms of why they're paraphrasing all of a sudden and took their sweet time throughout season 2. I'm assuming they thought the series had more time.

Ah gotcha. Hopefully they can nail S4.

Yeah, August 2015 they mentioned a 5 season plan... and that was why they stretched out season 2 and made it almost completely filler.

“From the very beginning, we had really talked about the first book being the first season, the second book being the next two seasons and the third book the last two seasons,” Cuse said, via The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve stuck to that game plan.”

He added that season 3 and beyond will be 10-episode campaigns, unlike the 13-long ones of the first two years. The defined story arc is something that Cuse liked about the show and was an attractive part about joining the project. It’s something del Toro is adamant about retaining: “The way we see it is as a closed tale, and I’d very much like to keep it that way.”

So weird they decided to cut it down by a season. But I'm all for the final book being a single season if the alternative meant getting more crap like season two. Besides I'm about ready for this show to conclude too.

Re: The Strain (S3E05) -- "Madness" -- 9/25/16

Sounds like quite a bit of waffling in that article ... Did the showrunners declare it will be the last season or did the studio?

The original book series was 3 books. There were 22 comic books assembled into 6 graphic novels/trade paperbacks. Cutting it at four seasons still could have provided a tight and concise story ... COULD have.

Even Season 3 has felt as if it has had a crap-ton of filler to date.

All the news seems to say it was 'FX' decision for Season 4 to be the last.

The cable network announced Tuesday that it has renewed the vampire drama for a fourth and final season set to air in summer 2017. An episode count has not yet been determined.

Re: The Strain (S3E05) -- "Madness" -- 9/25/16

Glad next season will be it's last. They can start planning the ending now. If the whole thing with the worm is any indication, maybe the it's better to truncate things a bit and leave out scenes where a very slow moving worm survives to drop down a storm drain. They can certainly leave out a few characters like Gus and Angel.

Enjoyed seeing more flashbacks. The show seems to be at it's best when it's showing how things got there. Hopefully they do the same with this whole Egypt story line. Let's see some of how this other Ancient got in a box and on a boat heading for NY.

Re: The Strain (S3E05) -- "Madness" -- 9/25/16

I felt the 2nd book was the weakest of the 3 and I think we're seeing that with the amount of 'filler' we've been getting in seasons 2 and 3. I too am glad they're ending at 4 seasons and plan to tell the story of book 3 next summer.

That's not gonna happen. They have important roles to play, believe or not.

Oh, I believe it. And I'm sure the casting choices are not helping.

I believe they have already changed up some things on the show vs. the books. So whatever their role is in the books, they could (should!) be given to other characters on the show.

I was hoping so, but apparently not.

Why was Quinland recoiling at the sunlight and refusing to go outside? I thought he was a daywalker?

Was he recoiling? I don't remember. IDK, just because he can doesn't mean he likes it? I'd have to watch it again.
