A new Elvis limited TV series is in the works.

Elvis Presley's ex-wife Priscilla has signed on to executive produce a new TV series about her late ex-husband's life.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's new project, based on Dave Marsh's book Elvis, will take the form of a limited series, according to The Hollywood Reporter - and he has struck a deal with the Presley estate, which involves rights to the King of Rock's musical catalogue.

The cast and crew will also have access to Presley's Graceland home, the late rocker's cars, archives, and personal journals.

Announcing the news, Priscilla said, "I'm a big fan of Harvey Weinstein's independent films (and) I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him on this show and tell the story of how Elvis changed the culture of music and initiated a revolution that changed the world."

Weinstein added, "To this day, Elvis is one of the few that lives up to the word icon. He is one of the most celebrated entertainers of all time whose influence surpasses the music he created. People's fascination with his story goes beyond the stage and this biopic will pay homage to his brilliant legacy and give viewers an in-depth look at how he became The King."

The new Presley estate-backed series will be the first to focus on Elvis in a decade - Jonathan Rhys Meyers played Presley in a two-part miniseries for U.S. network CBS back in 2005. He picked up a Golden Globe for the role.

He has also recently been portrayed on the big screen by Michael Shannon in this year's (16) Elvis & Nixon.

Presley died in 1977, aged 42.

I liked the old series from 1990 that was cancelled. I don't know how they can really make it better than this.
