Re: Lethal Weapon (FOX) -- S: Wayans, Crawford -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/1

I watched the pilot after all the positive comments here. It wasn't bad. But I still don't see the point of this. I'll watch a few more to see where it goes...since I have nothing on in that time slot currently. If it stays very procedural, I will drop.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the point of the show was to entertain the viewers.
It's not sports and it's not a documentary so if that's what you were tuning in to watch yeah you'll be disappointed.
Then again I like Rush Hour. It's light and fun.

No, Rush Hour wasn't fun.

Somehow I missed all the BJ references...

It was a watchable, very fun pilot. Some of the action set pieces were great for television. I could see this slipping into procedural laziness very quickly, which does dampen my enthusiasm a bit.

The casting seems decent.

The scene with Riggs delivering the pizza to the bank. Isn't that lifted directly from one of the movies? They would have to Black credit for that.

I am going to try and be nice and compare it more with the recent Rush Hour tv adaption than the original movies, but it still falls way short

The guy playing Riggs was soo bad, yes he has to be compared to a motherfucking prime Mel Gibson, but he still isn't fit to suck Gibson's cheesy foreskin after he's had a wank

Wayans was more tolerable but of course still a skyscraper short of Danny glover

FYI

On Amazon Video (free) there is apparently an "Uncensored" version of the Pilot that runs almost 5 minutes longer.

It looks like it's also available on Hulu and Itunes as well.

Did anyone see this version?

Watched the Uncensored Pilot.

No really glaring differences. A few F bombs were dropped and I think there were some short scene and dialogue extensions.

Thanks for checking...I was wondering if it had more BJ action.

I liked it and I didn't like it at the same time. I thought it was pretty fun and entertaining, but other than using the name and characters nothing about it felt like Lethal Weapon. I also worry that it will just become another boring procedural.

What else would you expect from a network show like this? I'm sure it'll be a typical procedural show with occasional action set pieces.

Do we have to wait for season 2 to get the Leo Getz character?

Not sure, but I got a real Friday Night Lights vibe from the music.

And I enjoyed the pilot as well. I actually thought this Riggs had a lot more depth of character than the movie version.

That's because it WAS the music from FNL.

The movie or the TV show? Because I've never seen the TV show, so if that's the case, I must have heard it in a THIRD place.

Re: Lethal Weapon (FOX) -- S: Wayans, Crawford -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/1

Really liked the opening and clear homage to movies and it's slickly done, but turned typical procedural and slapsticky, real fast. The first two movies were gritty and dirty and classic. This is just too neat and finely produced and they really overdue the comic bits and the dramatic bits. Will watch second ep, but not sure if I'll continue...

My mistake. The song used is The Mighty Rio Grande by This Will Destroy You. It was used in Moneyball and Room. It sounds very Explosions in the Sky - esque... the band who was used for FNL.

Re: Lethal Weapon (FOX) -- S: Wayans, Crawford -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/1

Put me in the pleasantly surprised camp! Based on the bland reviews I was expecting the worst. Figured I'd watch just to get it out of the way and cancel the season pass, but it was good (not great).

Maybe it's because my expectations were lower (been happening a lot with movies), but I don't see how or why all the reviews were saying the pilot is cheesy or too jokey. There were some funny parts, a few lines that were too cliche, but I thought it was quite balanced.

Will check out more.

Thanks! I actually thought it was Explosions in the Sky.

at the rooftop sequence with Riggs and that woman. Ridiculous and over the top, but funny.

It was a case of the week episode, but I'll give them credit, they are developing Riggs character and the pain he's going through. Crawford and Wayans were still fun together. I also liked seeing more of Murtaugh's family life.

Nice bait and switch as to who the story would be about for the 2nd ep. I was sure it was going in one direction until of course that direction got shot a whole bunch of times.

but decent over all it was a ep... Only two ep so far but I like this show way more than I thought I would, so of course I'm sure FOX will find a way to cancel it.

Solid second episode. After suffering through Macgyver I appreciate this show that much more.
