re: Kevin Can Wait (CBS) -- S: Kevin James -- Series Thread

I was surprised at how extensive her filmography was considering I can't recall seeing her in anything. She's not bad, she just seems like someone who would do better in a larger ensemble cast. As a nagging wife there is really nothing to set her apart. Then when comparing her to such a personality as Leah Remini, she doesn't stand much of a chance.

Remini with that NY accent and quick retort timing is a tough act to follow. But they were probably looking for the anti-Remini when they cast the part and they succeeded.

Holy shit. They threw out Erinn Hayes and are bringing in Leah Remini as a regular. Not that it had much of a story to follow but it will be interesting to see how they throw out the wife and bring in the ex-partner.

Kevin Can Wait gets rid of Erinn Hayes

The one ep with Remini was better than the entire rest of season 1.

I agree. Erinn Hayes wasn't bad, she was just woefully miscast in this case. Plus she looks younger than her age and James looks older which made it seem an unlikely pair.

Season will open with KJ sitting around depressed because the wife either left him or died & then Remini will come along & they'll date/fall in love & she'll move in. Their character personalities are exactly the same as they were on KOQ so why didn't they just continue making new eps of it to begin with.

I disagree. I think they both look their age.

Very disappointed in this move. Huge crush on Hayes. Remini looks awful now, her lips take up most of her face. Honestly can't see continuing to watch because of this, depending on how they play it out. In terms of story, she had just quit her job so it'll be interesting if they have her having some kind of mid life crisis and going off to find herself, or if she dies or end up divorced. Aside from the oldest daughter, who is an adult anyway, the other two kids were useless and wouldn't be missed if they disappeared as well.

re: Kevin Can Wait (CBS) -- S: Kevin James -- Series Thread

She does have a certain sexiness about her. I just always thought she looked young to have a 20 something engaged daughter and a retired husband. That, and I never bought into their personalities matching as spouses. I like KJ. He seems like the kind of guy you'd want to have a pizza with. But the show was a filler for me. If it was on and nothing else was I would watch it and it would be OK. The Remini episode I truly enjoyed. Best one of the season.

One of the first things I noticed when I watched the show (besides it being truly terrible) was how bland Erinn Hayes was/is. No charisma, no life in her eyes... She needed to go...

I don't watch this show, but I find this development interesting. Like everyone else here, I'm curious as to how they'll handle it. They'd almost be better off doing "Queens" again, just a bit further down the road.

I was a huge fan of King of Queens (Probably my top 5 favorite sitcom of all-time), but this feels like The Jay Leno/Conan fiasco and could backfire. I actually feel bad for the actress who played Kevin James wife as I'm sure she either felt pressured to quit, or was asked to quit because Leia Remini wanted back in.

And from what I have read (take it with a grain of salt), Kevin James is one of the biggest a-holes in real life.

According to a Facebook post attributed an article, Hayes was "let go".

As I recall, CBS was hitting that reunion episode pretty hard, to the point where I wondered how the actress playing his wife felt about it. Clearly, CBS must have had some concern about how the show was doing. I wonder if Remini's other project (the anti-Scientology series) and the publicity it generated helped or hurt her.

I think it is a great move. The episode with Remini was the only episode I watched this season. Clearly they still have great chemistry. Will watch next season.

Yeah, this has to start with Doug waking up from a dream. They can't go a Cosby route and have the 2 main characters play different parts. KoQ is one of my all time favorite shows and I'd watch a continuation.

Did they decide to end KoQ, or was it cancelled because of ratings?

It had a formal ending, but it was likely due to rising costs and sagging ratings -- though the ratings are great by today's standards, albeit in overall, no clue what the demo ratings are.

Not sure how I feel about this news. I thought James and Remini were gold on King of Queens. Now, she just annoys me.

I wonder if they'll replace the daughter's boyfriend with Jerry Stiller?

What's interesting about KOQ is how well it does in syndication and has lasted compared to never cracking the top 15 during its initial run. Seinfeld, Friends and KOQ are the only 90's shows that are still on the big syndication networks like TBS and CW. I think Year 3,4,5, and 6 is when the show was at its peak.

re: Kevin Can Wait (CBS) -- S: Kevin James -- Series Thread

Likewise, I am a big fan of KoQ, definitely one of my Top 10 all time sitcoms. So I checked out the new KJ sitcom this year, and found I really couldn't get into it either. It just seemed like another generic three camera sitcom. I realize some people maybe saw KoQ as being that, but it really was much better than that, at least for the first six or so years of it's run - one of the better written and acted ones of the late 90s/early 00s, in fact.

That being said, I don't know if I can really muster much enthusiasm for the James/Remini reunion. It seems too likely to end up as another case of "you can't go home again." I can see it really feeling more like a gimmick that even diminishes the better legacy of the previous show.

With them removing the current actor who is the wife I can't see any reason to keep the kids.

As bad as the show is anyway they were the weakest part.
The two younger kids are pointless and the boyfriend living there is more annoying than Erkal

At this point, just have Doug wake up from a dream next to Remini and go with it as KOQ part 2.

If they were to go that route, would the rest of the cast be sacrificed and replaced to fit the scenario?
