I wonder if we'll finally know what it's about after tonight? Or if they're going to jerk us around the whole season. (I'd actually kind of like that, but I don't think the writers are good enough to pull it off.)

Is this really only 10 episodes? I thought they starting earlier so they could run the normal 12 without the holiday break. That is great news if it is 10, IMO.

Yup, Spoiler TV confirmed it's only 10.

Hats off. I thought the plot would have leaked by now.

Yeah, FX has done a good job keeping this pretty well contained leading up to tonight. Glad to see it's 10 episodes and also glad this is premiering earlier than prior seasons -- and will wrap a few weeks after Halloween and prior to the Holiday season.

So what the hell is this?

So far it's like one of those "Haunting" or "Paranormal Witness" kind of things they show on A&E and Discovery...

When was the original incident supposed to have occurred? The modern day characters were younger than their past counterparts.

I enjoy those silly Paranormal Witness type shows so I'll probably continue watching unless the story gets too far out there. However, if it's anything like every other season of American Horror Story, I'll only make it a couple of episodes before I drop it.

Episode gets a C-/D+ from me. Didn't like the format or the subject matter.

I've watched all of 15 minutes of last season and have never seen any other seasons. That 15 minutes only convinced me to keep it that way.

I did watch the premiere of S6 tonight though. Not overly impressed with the acting in the "documentary" bits. Didn't get enough of a sense for where this is going either. Is it a haunted house? Is it Deliverance? Is it Blair Witch? Not sure I got enough to care.

The only thing that may draw me back is the "documentary" title: My Roanoke Nightmare. Roanoke was the English Colony which mysteriously disappeared in the late 1500s. This subject has always fascinated me.

That was a change of pace. I'm not sure it worked.

If you have Netflix or access to S1 Murder House, check it out. Might be more to your liking.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I liked the dramatic reenactment angle. I'm interested to see where it goes from here.
Kinda funny that even after this first episode we still don't have a definitive theme.

I'm a sucker for the whole stupid "inspired by a true story" ghost story nonesense that happens on Friday nights on most basic cable channels like scyfy, but I just couldn't see OJ and Marsha Clark together..

I'm very confused by this. The cutting back and forth between the documentary and "reenactments" (which are way too GOOD and detailed for a reenactment) just takes all the scares out of it.

Meh premiere. Didn't hate it, but didn't like it either.

Hopefully they take it in some New Nightmare directions.

Plus the fact that the narrators are narrating would indicate that they survive every encounter so alot of the suspense is gone.

I feel like Gooding and Paulson weren't acting as well since it was supposed to be a dramatic reenactment, I liked it, and liked that it was more subtle than the last 2 seasons.

Once I caught on to what they were going for I didn't have a huge problem with it but it definitely feels gimmicky to me. Unless the producers have a clever plan for where it's headed (maybe eventually jumping to the present in the timeline or something) I don't really see the point of the documentary style.

I think the documentary thing sounded better in the writers' room than it's playing out on screen. This episode felt absolutely NOTHING like the previous five seasons.

AHS is pretty hit and miss for me but I'm intrigued enough with the first episode to give this season a shot. The whole reenactment gimmick means that what we're seeing on screen is more than likely not what actually happened so I'm interested to see how the actual events begin to make themselves known. The people in the interview segments are all shifty as f*** so we know that something despicable went down.

Wow, surprised to be in the minority because I loved it.
