Your favorite "Holy crap that was awesome" tv moments
Was having this discussion last night with a couple of friends. What are some of your favorite "holy crap" tv moments -- not necessarily surprises, but moments when you just absolutely loved the show you were watching.
I'll start with a few:
* The moment in Babylon 5's "Severed Dreams" when Delenn saves the day.
* The moment in Battlestar Galactica's "Someone To Watch Over Me" when Kara figures out what song is in her brain.
* Doctor Who's "The Pandorica Opens," -- "Okay kids, this is where it gets interesting."
* Community's "Modern Warfare" - basically the entire episode.

Re: Your favorite "Holy crap that was awesome" tv moments
Most popular shows should have one of those episodes.
Lost, for me, had several.
But I think it's better when the show has been for some time, 2-3 seasons, and then in season 4+ they have one episode where they deliver.
Breaking Bad of course is one of the best examples. They have several episodes, no gotchas, no surprises, just awesome TV. There are some episodes, the ones with the cousins, where the action and tense moments make them memorable. But one that always gets commented everywhere is "Crawl Space". Season 4 (of 5), episode 11, of 13, and it's not directed by Gilligan, or Rian Johnson, or some other favorite director from the show. I think it's the only episode directed by Scott Winant. And it's one of those holy crap! tv moments. It doesn't matter if you watched the series "live", in a weekly basis, or if you are marathoning the show. After you watch that episode you have to take a break. Or go to the internet and read and post about that episode.

As a side note, that year Homeland won the Emmy for best drama show, and Damian Lewis won the best actor award. I mean, that probably was the only year that Homeland was good, but come on.

I think the best thing to do in this thread is name the show you are talking about, and then put the WTF moment in spoilers. That way if anyone has seen the show, they can click the spoiler, while if they didn't they can avoid it.

I know there are plenty, hell 24 could probably fill an entire list, but I'm drawing a blank on most right now, so I'm going to go out in left field and say Friends: "The one with the Embryos."
Having the gang swap apartments over a game was brilliant, but the true payoff was the following episode where it stuck. Sitcoms traditionally forget such plots by the following episode and everything would be back to normal. The fact that it carried on for a few episodes was "holy crap awesome."
Spoiler!

Breaking Bad had some good ones. Game of Thrones too. My personal favorite was the Battle of Blackwater Bay and the wildfire

Battlestar Galactica. Atmosphere jump.
Also definitely the wildfire moment from season 2 of GoT.

No, some of those came to mind but this isn't an "oh shit" list. To me there's a difference between that and "that was awesome." I wouldn't call a main character getting killed as awesome.* That's not exactly the emotion you should be going through before a possible silent clock. So for 24, I was thinking more along the lines of "I'm gonna need a hacksaw" as awesome. Or maybe Jack kicked cocaine in two hours is awesome.
*unless it's done in a spectacular fashion. see e.r. and Romano or Gant.

Breaking Bad --- I think the end of S2 when Walt ran over the drug dealers when Jesse was pinned down.

Well, the thread title says "Holy crap", so I think the question is what's the difference between holy crap and oh shit? Where is the bar set on the fecal scale?

How about Budd Dwyer blowing his brains out on national TV at his press conference in 1987. I believe he was State Treasurer of PA and was found guilty of bribes or something like that and was given 55 years in jail. They thought his press conference was call to announce he was resigning, but made a 1/2 hour speech, pulled a revolver out of an envelope and blew his brains out on national tv. I still remember one of my local channels showed the aftermath that night on the news as someone yelled, "OH MY GOD!!!!"

Pretty much the entire Shut the door, Have a seat episode of Mad Men punctuated by Lane saying, "Very Good. Happy Christmas" after PPL fires him.
