Maybe it's like when you are drunk, and stuff that should bust you up you just kind of bounce up from.

Then again, zombies have strange fluid mechanics. Extreme blood loss and complete lack of rehydration hasn't resulted in non-functioning muscles or total cellular degradation. Rigid muscles can compensate for broken bones, especially if pain isn't a factor.

What I didn't get was why were all of the zombies suddenly falling off the balconies? Shouldn't that have been happening over time, not just all of them suddenly doing it at the same time?

I think the idea was supposed to be that they started plunging after Strand and Madison started idiotically making all kinds of noise (piano, breaking glasses).

From The Walking Dead proper, we know that confined zombies will "shut down" when there isn't any prey around. They heard all of the noise and reactivated.
