Anyone remember this classic "Miniseries" that aired several summers ago?

I remember first seeing this on television but as I remember it, the miniseries aired in the same order as what I later read in the book. Probably a repeat broadcast after they realized they got it wrong the first time, I don't know. At any rate I enjoyed the miniseries enough to buy it on DVD, we've watched it several times over the years. The only part my wife doesn't like is the segment with Bernadette Peters as the brainless twit. The music and clothes definitely dates this miniseries but I don't care. I own Childhood's End as well, we've watched it once so far. While there are numerous additions/changes to the story (I also have both books, Childhood's End and The Martian Chronicles), the overall effect on me was the same, I enjoyed that movie too. That you didn't enjoy either is fine, to each his/her own.

I'm an old, old man and the mini-series I remember most fondly are the "old school" ones from the days before cable. "Roots", "Rich Man, Poor Man" (and its sequel), "Shogun", hooked me in a way that later series have never matched.

Richard Chamberlain had to be in every miniseries in the 70's. It was the law.

There was kind of a fun era when I was younger when the networks were putting out Stephen King miniseries' on a semi-regular basis.

This happened right around the time that I started reading a lot of his books, so it was a fun few years.

I also remember swords-and-sandals stuff being pretty popular although I wouldn't be able to mention a single title now.

The one I remember really liking was Wild Palms. Not sure I want to revisit it.

I second all of these and own them on DVD (Tin Min and 10th Kingdom on BD).

But my favorite would be the remake of BSG which was originally a mini-series. But of course I didn't actually see it until long after it aired on DVD.

I had forgotten about "Wild Palms", which seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, video-wise. I remember having some problem taping the first episode and I never was able to get into it entirely. I loved the theme and ended up buying the soundtrack.

I can't believe I forgot to list The Lost Room. I even just re-watched it a couple weeks ago.

I see I'm the only one to list Jonathan Strange. It just hit Netflix if you haven't seen it. Highly recommended if you like miniseries.

I'm reading the book now. Looking forward to watching the show when I'm done.

V: The original was awesome. Forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't the original Salem's Lot air over a couple nights? Scared the crap out of me at 7 or so.

I'm probably mistaken on this too, but The Day After was really good, think it was a one and done but for some reason feel like I watched it over a couple nights? I'm 44 now and watched these a long time ago.

Not a mini-series, but an (excellent) made for TV movie. 2 hours 7 minutes, one night.

Ultraviolet is quite excellent. I have the sense it was originally intended on being a TV series but only went as far as a 2-parter.

Pennies from Heaven

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Loved the first half of IT...the second left a lot to be desired.

I really liked Centennial when I watched it about 15 years ago. The last episode was a big shift in tone, but I see why it was retained.

I noticed someone mentioned the great reboot of Battlestar Galatica, but of course that's not a mini-series.

I, Claudius is fantastic! It needs more love in this thread. Patrick Stewart with hair!
